I've wanted these brake tests to be run in the opposite format as itll be more relevant to the user. ie , run the dyno at say 200Nm and see what lever force and distance is required to stall in say 2.5 seconds. This should tell a better story as lever geometry will be considered in the results. As an end user I'm more interested in how much hand force is required rather than comparing max figures. Does the lever swing 10 or 25mm? These factors contribute more to ride feel and use.

Steel for the teeth, carbon for the spider, aluminum for the direct mount attachment. $149. I wonder if you could reduce the eventual cost of replacement by making just the wear portion of the chainring replaceable, and integrating the spider into the crankarm since the spider doesn't experience any wear.... no, that's too ludicrous to consider. (I'm sure it's a very nice chainring. Just funny how we end up engineering ourselves almost all the way back to older concepts.)

People thought Zaugg had left the company, but what actually happened was designers at Scott hid him by integrating him with his desk in the hopes it would provide his office with a cleaner look.

Im trying some Galfer Shark rotors and so far Im not fully convinced. They may be superior with cooling, but smaller surface area means less space for pad material to build up the braking track. Disc brakes use a like/like relationship between pad material deposited into the rotor surface and the pads themselves. If there is less surface area then there is less pad material for the actual brake pads to grip against. Its seems they are going more for friction of the edges of the holes vs pad material. It has a more mechanical feel to the performance vs...

No you’re not. Robot overlord transmission with RS Select fork and shock smells like the DeoreXT-derailleur-with-StxRC-shifter that I was warned against in 1996. For the same money, give me cable shifting and a nicer damper.

Hurray, the return of 17 Questions! Something I really like about Mr. Hart is the way he hides an amazing personality behind the lazy Northern drawl. I’ll never forget the post-race interview he gave after his Snowshoe win in ‘19, one of the best ever.

I heard its best to run the Fox 38s and Zebs with full dampening. Also important to add an s to the end of every forks name too (cause why not). Find me at your local blue flow trail this weekend blasting Nickelback from my bluetooth speaker.

Something that also doesn't translate well across the Atlantic is our use of highly offensive words as terms of endearment: in Scotland, if you think highly of someone, it is more than acceptable to describe them as a "good c**t". Unlike a bike company executive who signed off on headset cable routing, who may instead be referred to as a "bit of a c**t". Context is everything.

They're back to normal price I got # few pair from there in 29x 2.6/2.3 and 27.5x2.6 2.8 were sold out even prior to the winter sales. They work and wear really well Panaracer swoop AT are also great if one has a mullet that uses a 26er wheel

Why would that be awkward? That's exactly what many of us are saying these guys should be doing. No one's saying it's an easy path. Lots of riders and privateers have to juggle their work life with their riding life. They have to use vacation time to travel for races and comps. Lots of guys have to figure out sick time, short term disability, etc, if they get injured (I think of someone like Steve Vanderhoek, who's a firefighter, but had to take some time off after a nasty crash at Tour De Gnar. Luckily a job like firefighting has...

I've had a lot of debates on this. I've always preferred bikes with shorter rear ends as I think they are more rewarding to ride and flick into corners. My bike friend who runs an unnamed bike company completely disagrees and thinks longer back ends are better as they give a more balanced weight distribution. I think the weight distribution thing is nonsense, I think every rider rides in a dynamic centre of gravity and their body position will adjust to suit this and spread the weight effectively. One thing I observe is when bikes have too long a reach...

Primoz has pretty much hit the nail on the head here. The radial/axial load ratings of bearings quoted by the manufacturers are based on continuous 24hr operation over a lifetime, even the static load rating. Generally in rotating machinery design, the output for a calculation is the expected lifetime of a bearing based on operating loads and conditions - depending on the application it's always nice when the output comes out as "inifinte"...however, in my experience (designing heavy duty winch drums and selecting gearboxes for them) bearing failure seems to be much more to do with how they're mounted than...
