10/5/2023 7:32pm I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and wanting to add to the pot for the Shorts Bounty. So rad!! But for now we are just going to keep it to the $250 we will put up. However, since we started doing the Burgtec Labour of Love award this year with the podcast, many have chimed in wanting to donate additional funds. I'd rather people help out with that award because it goes to riders who are often up-and-coming and need the money most to continue chasing the dream. So with that said, I'll look into options for next season for people to...

10/5/2023 7:15pm "I'm hesitant to paint everyone else in the industry as idiots" I was forced to sit through a multi-hour presentation where the management of a very large bike brand starting with T explained to us that it was'nt a bike boom caused by the virus. It was the result of all THEIR hard work making everything sooo awesome and it was our duty not to let them down. Anyone who voiced anything approaching common sense was roundly chastised for a 'negative attitude'. When the downturn bit and the 50% increased target turnover was consistently missed, it was due to our...

10/4/2023 3:57pm @jonkranked tommy crail rides MTB too and is living in virgin for the winter (according to his insta account). i know the bushwhacking days are over and there have to be safe lips and landings, it's just too over-the-top with traversing sidewalks linking hyper-manicured features. i'm still bitter about brendog's score the year of the Rock. maybe olly's billygoating in that vid above is a hint at what's to come for brendan. have to imagine gee's lines will be pretty aggressive, too. all that said, i hope everyone is safe and smart out there.

10/4/2023 8:21am People are irrational. Isaac Newton may be the smartest analytical mind to ever live but that didn't stop him from, essentially, doing the 1720-equivalent of investing all his money in Peloton in 2022. "Isaac Newton is claimed to have said ‘[he could] calculate the motions of the heavenly bodies, but not the madness of people’, and supposedly could not bear to hear of the South Sea affair to the end of his life." https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsnr.2018.0018 This turned into a great discussion. Jeff, you're right that I was a little careless with my use of the terms debt and equity, but what...

10/4/2023 8:13am The best case study in our world (sort of) for this is Peloton. They were the goldenchild of the pandemic, only to realize they literally made enough stationary bikes for the entire market and stopped production (fully). Stock was at $150 at the peak. $5.00 (not a typo) today. Point I'm trying to make, most people in a position of management at any company wants to believe it is their operating ability, not market beta, that is the real cause for success. Add to this bonuses and incentives that keep the gravy train going and its hard to see why...

9/22/2023 7:32am Are any of you paying for Strava? The net profit for Strava in 2022 was $220 million, 2023 $170 million. Do they give back to mountain bike advocates, trails societies? I don’t see them as a useful tool. Trailforks gives back to the trails in my area. I pay for that subscription, and use it for mapping when needed. not into the dick swinging contest that comes along with ‘Strava rides’. commence the hate

8/30/2023 9:28am Update from Cami: As most of you might know I had the biggest crash in my career in Vallnord, Andorra. I was blown by a sudden wind gust on the road gap in my quali run, apparently crashed hard on the landing. As of today, I don’t remember the accident. I’m suffering from a moderate head trauma and contusions in my chest, but no broken bones. I’ll be staying in a neuro rehabilitation center in Switzerland for a few weeks but should make full recovery. I’m very sad and disappointed to miss the rest of the season but getting better...

8/25/2023 7:17am Whatever bike fits you and your riding style the best. This is subjective and has a lot to do with biomechanics and the area you're riding in vs the area the bike was designed for. Demo lots of bikes, figure out what you want and buy a specific bike and then be a jerk about it on the forums. This is the way.

8/24/2023 8:45am I've not tried any shorter cranks, but I've been riding 175s for 33 years without any issues. To be honest, it's unlikely I'll get an apples-to-apples comparison of a shorter crank, so I'll probably just keep buying what I know. The 172.5 is so close to 175 that if I had to have these specific cranks I would just get those because that 0.1" really won't change anything. After doing some reading on it, it really seems like if a 175 works for your body, then it's fine. Going shorter just because that's the thing right now won't get you...

8/14/2023 8:07am I think we have reached the marginal gains stage of improvement at this point, maybe in the way that road bikes seem to have. Sure, there will be things that improve the rider experience, but I think we have reached a point where a bike from today will likely still be acceptable and shred-able in ten years barring any “standard” changes that render parts irreplaceable. I don’t think there will be as vast of a difference as there is between bikes from ten years past. But since we all get to throw in our two cents, there are things that...

8/1/2023 7:40am I was able to test the fork with the tru tune device in the airspring side. You can see the graph below difference in how much more linear the ramp up is. I don’t think this is a perfect fork or it’s necessarily fixed but interesting to see what this device does. A interesting thing to know is that true to recommends 10% or air pressure been previously run without their insert. I found that was way too much, so went back to the same pressure. 76psi stock air side I got 24% dynamic sag and hit about 145mm max...
