Wild throwback! I remember being so star struck that we were shuttling with Semenuk. He was as cool and mellow as imagined, and about twice as fast on a DH bike as expected. That day was definitely a core memory for me. I always wonder if Brandon even remembers spending a day riding some meh trails with a bunch of downhill groms that were riding way too hard to try and impress him lol

8/5/2026 6:06am Believe it or not, the DHR2 has been the fastest rolling Maxxis DH tire for a long time, faster than the DHF, Assegai, HR2, HR3, Shorty, everything. That's why Greg ran DHR2's front and rear (2.3 EXO casing, I think?) on his World Champs bike in Pietermaritzburg in 2013. It was a gamble to run such thin tires on the DH track, and he famously hit a rock and got a leak on the rear tire in his race run, such that it was completely flat within a minute of crossing the finish line. That was 13 years ago, so...

8/5/2026 6:05am Much different casings and a lot more going on with the new DH vs DD. The butyl insert in the new DH is waaaaaaaaaay stiffer than the old one or what’s found in the DD casing. It also has different geometry-thicker at the base near the bead and tapers as it goes up the sidewall. I believe it’s also taller than the insert in DD so it extends higher up the sidewall. And then the sidewalls are topped with a layer of EXO for additional cut protection. I’m no longer at Maxxis, but I was working on this launch up...

8/5/2026 5:59am Assuming the pit-scavenged test pilot tires a couple of local bros have brought by the shop are at least very similar to the final “New DH” casing, that new high-hardness butyl insert is insanely stiff. It seems borderline impossible to puncture that sidewall, and the support must be significant. The rest of the tire didn’t feel too different from DH casings of the past. Interesting that Maxxis is pushing a new casing with which they encourage riders to drop pressure when other brands are pushing a more pliable radial casing and more psi.

Jason_Schroeder Liked a product review Maneuverability Before Stability | Cannondale Bad Habit Long-Ter

Cannondale’s Bad Habit is one of those bikes that sells the do-everything experience. It’s an enduro race bike. It’s an all-mountain adventure vessel. It's playful enough to rip a bike park. It’s ready to go for an all-day pedal. I generally appreciate bikes like this because if you can afford only one bike to serve most use cases, it’s often money well spent. However, striving to maximize versatility can lead to mediocrity. That’s the line bikes like the Bad Habit walk. When the bike launched , it caught my attention because it was spec'd like an enduro bike (minus...

5/14/2026 8:11am Conventional wisdom up until a week ago would have said this setup is unrideable and has no place at a World Cup. The fact that they were even in touch with these bikes demonstrates that there are still lots of places to go and things to explore re: bike geometry/fit

So when the braking bumps spread out for 32" do they become moto whoops for smaller wheeled bikes?

5/9/2026 7:31am I'd be extremely disappointed in the bike industry if they didn't take this opportunity to also introduce a new hub standard. That would be VERY uncharacteristic of them.

5/9/2026 7:28am So, going to ask this question fully understanding the debates and tech here... So everyone is saying 32" will NEED new/wider hub spacing, especially for DH. WHY? Most companies are designing asymetric rims. spoke tensions are even. now, on top of that, commencal is running 32h rear 28h front. so going down in spoke count. AND most teams are running LESS spoke tension to get better traction (and in turn INCREASE wheel flex). So.... if you take that into account, I see no need to run wider flanges on a 32h asymmetric rim at full tension. Also... most of us...
