What a bummer. We'll see what happens when Vail Resorts inevitably goes bankrupt and/or has to start offloading properties in the next 2-3 years.

I know I’m in the minority here but I’d take a slightly cheap feeling shifter that feels like a shifter over one that feels like adjusting the volume on a cheap bluetooth speaker any day.

To give them their due, Vail don't seem to give a shit about anything to do with the guest experience, not just Crankworx. I could go full old man yelling at the clouds about all of the cost cutting, nickel and diming nonsense (WATER FOUNTAINS COST NOTHING!!!) that irks me these days.

The LT looks pretty rad. I actually think lower stack is the move, I got an XL Hightower 4 recently with a 658 stack and I had to lower the stem pretty far to get it to corner how I prefer. would rather have a 640ish stack and run a big riser bar. I'll look forwards to getting one on a 40% sale from Backcountry in 4 years... $8400 for a complete or $5k frame is indefensible for a non ebike IMO.

I would agree. Vail taking over the resort didn’t help things either. They clearly didn’t give a shit about the event and made it harder and more expensive to do just about anything. I have a lot of respect for the small CWX team but they had zero pull with the Vail team. Not great conditions for a successful event.

My own feeling about Crankworx is that their drive to expand with multiple events all over the world and the 'Summer Series' events at smaller resorts has diluted their brand to the point where their flagship event in Whistler is no longer special or a draw for both international and local guests like it once was. Why travel all the way to Whistler to ride blown out trails in midsummer heat if you can see all the stars of the various disciplines doing their thing right around the corner from you.

This year does seem low key so far, doesn't feel less than 2 weeks away. The boneyard is looking good but definitely not its usual self, lots of empty space and no hydroseed green grass around, it has been pretty dry though. I raced Garbo DH last year and this year it's been cancelled, so maybe I'm not as hyped in the lead up to it. Could be rose tinted glasses but looking at the basic start gate setup from 2011 to 2025, last year was pretty basic, or no one cares anymore that's why it got cancelled 😂

The last gen Shimano 2x front mtb derailleurs were actually ridiculously good IMO. The horizontal swing rather than vertical made set up ridiculously easy once you got over your 20+ years of front derailleurs operating in the same general fashion knowledge, Simplex be damned. Getting rid of that vertical swing seemed to have nixxed a lot of opp for the chain to get derailed poorly.

Honestly I'm happy for Jordan. Guy had a rough year coming out of juniors after doing so well. Seems like such a nice kid too. Stoked to see Reece's finish but Jordan gapped him... 2 second lead with timings that tight is wild! Hope Reece or Hattie get the belted purse soon.

Tire rumors... I asked a shop if they'd heard when the new "not a DHF3" will launch, and the owner said he hadn't heard yet. He did say that there is an upgraded Aggressor coming, which I don't recall reading about, but also doesn't surprise me considering how bad I thought that tire was.

I think you have it backwards regarding their argument. I think they are saying that left foot forward means your right is back, which would likely put it in the way of most danger-eating objects first. You are more aware of what might strike your foot/pedal and try to veer away. If you are right foot forward, nothing else stands in the way through the whole wheelbase, then smacks the der der.

I would dare to guess that people who struggle with derailleur damage are riding right foot forward. I ride with left foot forward and right foot is effectively protecting the mech, it also makes me more aware of potential obstacles that could hit it, because I don't want to hit the rear pedal with it either.

Nike’s final pullout from snowboarding is even more crazy because the program was making money (very decent money by most standards, like several million a year) but the actual ROI percentage wasn’t enough for the main corporate bean counters so they just cut it all off one day. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nike already had some plans on MTB with the relaunch of ACG this past winter. However, we’ve seen that come an go at least once before.
