6/3/2026 11:36am "The industry needs as many cheap aluminum double crown bikes as it can handle. Bike park laps on these types of bikes is in my opinion the purest form of the sport. Just having as much fun as possible all day long with bikes that don't financially ruin you." A super fun bike sold today means a super fun bike...

6/2/2026 1:42pm I’m actually pretty pumped on a short travel bike that’s NOT flex stay. Add that the reach is over 510 (finally!) And it’s CBF? And carbon and red? Damn that’s a nice bike

6/2/2026 8:29am Is that a new Fidlock bottle in the first pic? That sort of thing could be useful for my very specific situation! Edit: Some quick googs reveals that it's only available in certain European countries...which is a bummer...

6/1/2026 7:34pm Just had my first ride on a sidekick hub. Pending any big differences in reliability, I think the answer basically comes down to your feelings on high engagement hubs. I’ve never really liked or sought out high engagement hubs (broke boy symptom?), so I don’t care about the lack of 0deg setting, nor was I bothered by the low engagement while riding. However, the low drag of the sidekick was super noticeable and very welcome. I would take low drag over high engagement in a heartbeat. But for high engagement enjoyers, the dt deg df system wins hands down. Up...

5/31/2026 7:21pm I had decided to pick Lloris based on vibes alone. Then he won timed training so I was CONVINCED he was going to do well. Damn. I even had the "do I reshuffle everything for BC?" instinct that I didn't act on. I picked Valentina Roa Sanchez, Hattie Harnden, and Lisa Baumann though, so the elite women saved my ass...

5/29/2026 9:52pm it looked like a little torch or something like that. I wonder if it's softening the plastic molding or something.

5/27/2026 10:09am I listened to the episode and found it interesting. I have to wonder if some of it is that taller riders are just historically used to bikes with shorter RCs so that’s what test riders end up preferring. Santa Cruz also talked about changes they make when making a bike for taller or shorter riders on their Tallboy episode of The Roller Door and while they didn’t go into detail as much as the Spot discussion, the takeaway was kinda the same that shorter riders preferred longer RCs and taller riders preferred shorter RCs

5/26/2026 9:07pm I'm really enjoying the Instinct to be honest, I wanted something lighter and more efficient uphill than the Altitude, but that can still handle some proper rougher stuff. It's setup 150/160, and I've swapped out the rear shock for a Float X2 since day one. I'm also debating on swapping out the 36 for a 160mm 38 to fully go into mini-enduro territory. As for the Element, I've ridden the latest one a handful of times and it's really a fun bike. Definitely on the lighter side of trail, but way more capable than a race-oriented XC bike. It's punching...

5/26/2026 3:12pm I should note that I've got sag on fork and shock, shock compression damping, and fork rebound damping feeling pretty decent through my coarse bracketing efforts. I think my fork compression damping is in a good place but I don't think I can say that with any certainty. I often feel like my CoG is pretty fluid so I find...

5/26/2026 3:00pm 100% agree with (some of) that musician/instrument analogy. At this point, for me, tuning is so quick and natural that it happens almost mindlessly. For the first little bit of learning guitar, though, I wasn't pushing my fingers down in a way that would even allow the guitar to be in tune or ring notes out clearly. So, I got...

5/26/2026 2:32pm Am I too late to complain about chainstays (why would you want long ones on a short travel bike?) My apologies, I spent time with my family over rhe holiday weekend instead of being chronically online

5/26/2026 12:18pm I thought the Spot interview was interesting. What he said made sense--it's a choice. It doesn't cost more to manufacture. It does change how the bike rides, which is something to consider. Some builders, Spot and Pivot for example, still believe in designs that incorporate a short CS.

5/26/2026 11:40am It's interesting to hear the differences in peoples' experiences. I would love to take a spin on a long CS, moderate reach, high stack setup to feel the differences in handling. I tackle almost every climb standing up. I'd rather mash a higher gear than spin a lower one seated. Honestly, I just stand almost all of the time when I'm riding my bike; it just feels better to me. Plus, I'm a low-proficiency, high-power guy. I started mountain biking three years ago in my forties, but I'm quite strong, so I just hammer through terrain with power rather than...

5/26/2026 11:35am Could be! The Instinct Manual says 52.5mm but I didn't see it mention the C99 spec.

5/26/2026 11:27am I think the issue is not being able to establish what the problem is because your riding isn’t consistent enough and therefore you don’t actually know what you are trying to fix. No one wants to try to problem solve a problem that they can’t even read. You shooting in the dark, unsure about the validity of potential solutions, and potentially don’t understand the complicated relationship between all the systems so you might actually end up fucking something up terribly. It’s not surprise many people don’t want to tinker.
