7/8/2026 7:44am Nike’s final pullout from snowboarding is even more crazy because the program was making money (very decent money by most standards, like several million a year) but the actual ROI percentage wasn’t enough for the main corporate bean counters so they just cut it all off one day. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nike already had some plans on MTB with the relaunch of ACG this past winter. However, we’ve seen that come an go at least once before.

7/7/2026 5:46pm Slow clap. Part of the reason why road bikes came with 19-23mm tires pumped up to 120+ psi is because they felt faster than bigger or softer tires, and because of flawed test methodology (testing tires on smooth steel drums in a lab vs. testing on real asphalt). I've heard a lot of people in the tire forum say that radials roll slower, and they certainly might. But until I see actual test results using a methodology that makes sense, I'm going to assume that no one knows the answer to that question.

7/7/2026 1:54am For what it's worth: I'd still rather have all my tech rumors in one place instead of having to subscribe to a new thread for every new rumor. The current concept of one, singular annual tech rumors thread would work beautifully well if everyone just stuck to posting actual tech news and rumors. The problem is the guys endlessly talking...

7/6/2026 10:37am Try 25 years. Ever since the first Rohloff hub integrated frames that Nicolai built. I agree that I don’t think they will see widespread popularity, but the key ingredient to their design is how tough and low maintenance they are. All you really have to do is change the oil. Anecdotal example is a friend of mine who has an Archibald. Hasn’t had to do anything to that gearbox, and he’s been pounding it for two years The benefits go beyond just a broken rear derailleur. No more clutching that contributes to suspension action, and there’s a lot of sprung...

7/6/2026 10:36am my attempt at a palete cleanser to get this forum back on track. Scott XC team is wearing some new interesting looking helmets. Caught my eye is this weekend. Is the black piece another attempt at the canyon breakaway helmet, is it just a fancy sunglass holder, maybe aero? Couldn't find a great photo but its odd looking.

7/4/2026 3:40am Honestly this is kinda funny to hear. I feel a kinship with other countries who's domestic automakers wield immense political power, and use it to exclusively enrich themselves at the cost of the common citizen.

7/4/2026 3:26am Oddly, I've never felt that the rear derailleur was holding me back in any way. You have an interesting theory though. I'll be closely watching the XC comps in the coming years, waiting for the gearbox to make its debut. I don't keep up with the UCI enduro scene. Is anyone there running a gearbox? I know Dalt Stone runs one in local comps in BC. There are a few in the DH circuit, but I suspect that's more about the Gates $100k purse. They definitely make more sense for gravity sports. I'm not against gearboxes, it's just that the...

7/1/2026 6:02am and most people don't care. They just want the best thing at the best price. Again; and this is where I'm pretty sure your assessment doesn't universally apply. Over here, people sort-of do care and it will take companies like XDS years if not decades to lose the China-stigma - even if they offer a good product at a good...

7/1/2026 5:58am "Riding stuff from Asia" is a pretty gross over-simplification of what actually happens to bringing a performance bike to market. I'd guess that the secret sauce for western brands is operating in a core environment that drives product excellence, which translates to a superior product to what non-core brands are able to offer. The Amflow frame, for example, is largely panned over by most and the focus of the brand is on the e-system itself. If that frame contained a Bosch of Shimano drive, it wouldn't have made the same impact. Frames like these are often referred to as parts...

7/1/2026 5:30am I think you've got rose colored glasses on regarding the Amflow frame. The v1 got a lot of criticism for being very flexy, particularly in the rear end. It had the dubious design choice of a yoke-driven trunnion shock (Vorsprung says in their suspension design manual that if you end up with that design, you should "put down the bong and start again"). Slapping Fox suspension and Transmission drivetrain on it isn't some genius product manager move - almost every bike out there does that these days. The wheels, hubs, bars, and stem are all in-house products and not exactly...

6/30/2026 12:07pm I don't know. Perhaps that's the price you pay for a literally half price high performance bike - no warranty and limited aftermarket support. As an enthusiast I've kept up with DTC Chinese stuff for years now, and it seems anecdotally people are left out to dry when it comes to warranty with the exception of very, very few brands. The usual response seems to be something along the lines of "sure, we'll warranty your frame, but you need to send us your old one to our shop in Shenzhen completely arranged by you, and you need to pay shipping...

6/30/2026 12:12pm I don't think this is universally true. At least not here in Germany. In the more conservative markets like Germany (- notoriously conservative), consumers are generally still very suspicious and skeptical of chinese brands. Buying products from a chinese OEM or brand still carries the stigma of low quality, ip theft and bad warranty support. The fact that chinese branding...
