It’s weird - sram can release an ecosystem of groups with proprietary cassettes, derailleurs, chains, rings, that have stratospheric prices and persistent issues (speed, shift calibration limitations, QC issues, cassettes that need to be installed multiple times to settle, battery pins corroding etc etc), plus compromises they try and correct release to release. Maybe that’s ok, it’s up to the rider. At the same time, Shimano releases a new di2 ecosystem that uses their existing(and awesome) cassettes, chains, rings, has the industry leading shifter for ergonomics. It was promising- less chainslap in general but on very large impacts chainslap was worse as you'd pull the derailleur into the weaker spring zone. Shifting was actually improved- less tension on the chain going into big cogs. Think the best would be a massive torsion spring to add tension everywhere and then use the cam over spring to mostly subtract tension going into the large cogs. I believe that is the limiter on cage tension. Once you have too much- the derailleur doesn't like shifting into the big easy cogs. I filed paperwork to patent, begged, pleaded, told everyone...

It must have been a rough day when the Levo rollout (years in the making) was quickly made irrelevant by the Avinox M2. Didn't they have to slash prices by like 40% or something? I support my local bike shop even if the costs are a little higher sometimes. If we want to see the sport continue in the ways we want to see it continue, we have to help fund it. $10 for a broadcast is fine when I can spend $10 on a not-very-good mocktail. Skip a drink or two out at a restaurant and it's handled. I should drink less sugar, anyway.

I've had a set of the wolftooth ones on my dh bike for a few months now. Did absolutely nothing for hand fatigue, but did save my pinky finger from getting squashed by a tree at sunpeaks.

A lot of the cost difference on the frame set vs complete sport build is the Super Deluxe Ultimate vs the Suntour Edge shock. There's almost a $400 difference here. If the frameset shipped with the same shock as the Sport build, it would drop the price a good amount. The frameset being spec'd with the higher end shock because most people buying a frameset are looking for something a bit nicer.

Another analogy - trail data or rider feedback is like going to the doctor - they will ask you questions, measure heart rate and blood pressure - thats like data acquisition and finding the symptoms, but getting more answers needs something like blood tests or an x-ray. They might not tell you the actual cause but they give much more information about whats going on

A dyno is a machine to run standardised tests to quantify damper performance. It is not meant to replicate trail loads and doesn't as they load suspension in a very different way. Yes I know electromag dyno's can play back trail data but that's a party trick and not their day job. A simple hand tester is not a dyno because it doesn't measure anything. I won't sugarcoat it, He single handedly ruined MTBR suspension forum. There were so many knowledgable industry insiders, inventors, owners and passionate puzzlers on that forum and according to him they were all wrong, non-sensical ranting and bickering meant most of those incredible posters left the forum and didn't contribute anymore. Why we would let Dougal, a shock tuner and distributor of Manitou in NZ, stand on a soap box here and shit all over every single other brand of suspension and most every other tuner, i have no idea. Most of my local stores dislike dealing with him and one actively refuses to order anything from him, if that tells you anything.
