Lead is problematic for multiple reasons. If you need something around the same density (i.e. steel isn't doing it for you) then I suggest 10 carat gold.

Honestly not sure the development curve for 32" wheeled bikes will reach sweet-spot geometry before the novelty wears off, interest dries up and brands will pivot to mainly focusing on 29" again. I know of at least two somewhat major bike brands who are fully convinced that 32" wheels will not become mainstream in the mid-/ long term. They're of the opinion that 32" wheels will stick around for roughly 3-5 years before they no longer sell in any sort of profitable quantity and then go the way of 650B-Plus - that is to say, slowly die out except in...

I do not disagree that income inequality, housing costs, weak local economies, and the erosion of discretionary spending make it harder to sell expensive recreational products. I have been making that argument for a while, and it fits directly into the “barbell hypothesis.” That said, invoking homelessness, smartphone addiction, Strava, cul-de-sacs, and the broader failures of capitalism does not demonstrate that independent bike shops are unbankable or that cycling culture is broadly collapsing. This conversation has taken a relatively narrow discussion about dealer economics and expanded it into a sweeping cultural diagnosis that is difficult to respond to directly, though...

I’ve been riding a 9sp SmartShift Kavenz G2 set up as a 180/180 superenduro or 200/200 park bike for the past few seasons. There’s definitely a learning curve getting used to shifting slightly differently, and being able to shift while coasting and such. When I ride it consistently everything is fine, if I’m coming off a long period of not riding that bike it’ll take me a ride or two to get used to it again. Shifts to harder gears will happen under full power, it’s just easier gears that can be delayed if you don’t let up slightly. I...

I don’t disagree that the benefits could outweigh the negatives for Lief. Everyone has a preference and it could suit him best. Just wondering is there is any seconds lost due to having to drop power in order to shift in some scenarios. Ews racers pedal way more than the average rider on these downhill stages, especially on the tight technical ones. Being able to put down 600watts and shifting out of a corner vs say 150watts(don’t know actual watts to shift a pinion) can add up on a long tight stage. If that ever changes to not let up...

How often is shifting under load a result of shifting too late? With a gearbox you’re able to shift at any other time. It may open more shifting windows than it closes

You’re not the first to assert Leaf is winning in spite of the gearbox… instead of wondering if the benefits to unsprung mass might outweigh the loss of efficiency. Is it that hard to believe Lief might prefer the Vanth? Last I heard he demoed the bike before signing with Priority. They didn’t hold a gun to his head and make him ride the bike… it’s very possible he could’ve found another sponsor if he wanted… Let’s not forget Enduro is timed only on the downhill. And there’s clearly an unquantifiable benefit to having weight under the BB…as demonstrated by...

We design our tires to be a standalone product. We do some testing to ensure instal is reasonable, but performance of tire + insert isn’t a priority for us.

They have nothing wrong with their bikes. Like remove the brand from the frame and Im intrigued. But you put ari on it and I just hate it. Astroturfing, diapers and basic bikes to look like theyre apart of the same boat as Canyon or Specialized, then they just have this design… they just infuriate me lol.

Woah, stop stop stop, please, This thread is wild. Yes Les Gets is a long way from Bordeaux, where the fires there are getting the most press. However there are fire's all over the country and surrounding countries of Europe. Yes it does rain a lot in the northern French Alps, but over the past few years the number of strong, violent thunderstorms has increased. These are frequently difficult to forecast and often very localised. Where I now live, often seems to miss the storms, where as friends 20 minutes drive away still get hammered. Even Meteo Suisse struggle to...
