I will probably get flamed for this, and will offer the caveat that I have only been skimming this page, but I feel like these bikes are great propositions and are in my eyes cool bikes because they’re made to be cheap and practical workhorses for younger demographics that don’t have as much disposable income and want a playful park bike that they can maintain themselves. Maybe I’m just haven’t been following the thread well enough, but I don’t see why the ebike bit is necessary to explain the appeal. Not everyone can afford bougie boutique racing machines, or ebikes...

Seriously, people have expressed concern over handing over their data to a Chinese company like Avinox but if you sync your phone to anything to do with Marc Andreessen (a16z) you might as well be giving it directly to the CIA. He’s not exactly shy about it

I posted this in the Loudenvielle thread but I think it might prompt some more discussion about team strategy in general and the role of changing lines and effort levels right before a race run. The overwhelming strategy that everyone was saying coming into this race was to "maintain position up top and turn it on in the steep". The thought was that you can't win or lose in the pumpy section, and all the differentiation would be done in the steep corners. Everyone was wrong. Luca went 1-1-1-2 in the first sectors before falling back to midpack. Benny Cool...

Just had my first ride on a sidekick hub. Pending any big differences in reliability, I think the answer basically comes down to your feelings on high engagement hubs. I’ve never really liked or sought out high engagement hubs (broke boy symptom?), so I don’t care about the lack of 0deg setting, nor was I bothered by the low engagement while riding. However, the low drag of the sidekick was super noticeable and very welcome. I would take low drag over high engagement in a heartbeat. But for high engagement enjoyers, the dt deg df system wins hands down. Up...

Me: Can we stop and get a 6-bar suspension from Yeti? Mom: We've got 6-bar suspension at home: For older Amflows, but I suppose the new ones might be supported as well: https://www.mklinkage.net/

first off let’s get one thing straight: it’s DQ. It is not, and never shall be DSQ. Cmon now. There were a ton of DQs in the qualifying because of the format: you have to go psycho fast and be within a half second of the fastest to make it through…slogging back uphill is a worthless waste of energy. Finals it makes sense to salvage points but there are no points in qualifying if you don’t qualify. Vermette was dealing with a partial decapitation so his vision was blurry. I’m going to kidnap RicMc and smuggle him to Leogang. Let...

I think the purpose of that little tab is to be a mini chain guide for the upper pulley in big chain slap moments. Pull the cage forward by hand and imagine the chain slapping and flopping around. Seems like it'd be easy for the chain to jump off the upper pulley if that tab wasn't there. I just checked a couple of X01 derailleurs in the old parts bin because the clutches started to wear out, and you can clearly see that the chain has hit that tab.

Why is there so much drag and what is that awful noise? Oh. What is the purpose of this feature on Shimano Mx100 derailleurs? It isn't structural and it forces you to break the chain again if you accidentally route it the wrong side.

Looks like Yeti ended up with the YT race truck. The railing and curved awning give it away.
