I dont want to scare people away, but also not set them up for failure but its definitely not easy - you dont need a technical background but you need a lot of patience in the beginning g to understand what it all means. Ie making lots of changes while riding the same track and observing the difference in data...

Hey I’ve been cruising through this thread and just at first glance it seems pretty technical. I love doing bike setup for myself and friends, is telemetry pretty easy to understand once you’ve actually got your own data, or do you need to have a technical background to actually get any use out it? Looking to pick myself up a new toy.

Yeah its another weird tuning choice from Fox, they're a big deal about "pressure blanced" tuning this generation, but the tunes mostly have zero adjustment range which makes that all kind of pointless.....

I think it's just a byproduct of going to a monotube with a shimmed base valve, less adjustment range than a twin-tube. The base valve needs to be matched properly with the main piston tunes. New aftermarket 26/27 DHX2 comes with CL70 compression tune, which is middle of the road. Most of the factory OE tunes I have seen seem to be softer. You can definitely feel more oil moving through the system, than the older twin tube DHX2.

Trunnion shocks unscrewing is normally a misaligned frame - its possible they werent quite torqued enough, but that seems pretty rare these days and I know Fox revised their torque figures and loctite spec a few years ago for that specific reason. Also with the top out issues can you tell if the conpression shims are sitting flat on yhe...

I try to use sag at the wheel whenever possible, if you have the leverage data. Same for velocities and every other metric really since that is the more "true" value that the rider feels and can be compared to the front (not that they will be the same, but can be compared fairly) The amount of wheel sag to...

So I spoke with one of our better local tuners and he kept mentioning the BYB position velocity graph so here it is. I am yet to understand how to properly read into it, I have been looking mostly into the Damping pyramid so far. I agree with @TheSuspensionLabNZ that the BYB traces can be very hard to read, so I added the option to show it as a heatmap too I also added video support that syncs with the telemetry timeline. This was super important to me and I bought my first ever action cam for it! Especially on...

I wish it was something that made sense to do. The reality is there aren't that many DH bikes out there. To be able to distribute the development costs enough to have a reasonably priced product we'd need pretty much everyone who owns a new Demo to buy something. It would be a fun project no doubt though.

Yeah it will be interesting to try but it would need to be pretty spectacular to replace slickoleum on my shop....In my experience the slickoleum/Sram butter already sticks around better than everything else I've used while also being super slippery and reasonably priced so I'm curious how much they think it can be improved on? @JVP yeah PM600 was introduced...

Seems to me like if the squealing is coming from painted backs, you'd be best off sanding off the paint, rather than putting grease anywhere near the pads where it could cause contamination.

It's an interesting comparison - I needed ChatGPT to politely rephrase my thoughts on Antidote and it came back with "Well equipped, but still learning." But I also think that Frameworks is far more technologically advanced than they appear at first glance. When you look at the tools they've used for development I have a feeling they are also much...

The original post feels like a prank because there is no front tire with more consistent grip than the Assegai because it was specifically designed to eliminate the dead zone between the center grip and the side knobs. Before the Assegai, the primary Maxxis DH front tires were either the DHF, DHR2, or the High Roller 2, each of which featured a large gap between the side knobs and center knobs. As others have mentioned, it's that gap that creates the "dead zone" between hooking and sliding on the DHR2 and High Roller 2, and especially on the DHF. In...

they have an hour for 121 elite men and an hour for 119 juniors to qualify? how is that possible? they'd have to be precision perfect with 30 second drops and not a single crash, flag, hiccup etc). is it always this tight? i've never paid attention to the allotted times for quali. at least elite women have 30 mins for 38 women.

Could be wrong, but I feel like the market is driven by what faster (or perceived to be faster) and in more and more cases MX is faster even for XL riders though. I remember when Minnaar first went to Norco there was some pushback from him to go MX but after a couple timed laps the choice was pretty obvious. Just one case but I think it was in a Vital Pits a while back.

These days* the main differences are BB's are often crappy plastic cups with narrow profile bearings pressed in to frames with poor tolerances, so they need retaining compound to hold them in. Headsets are more commonly alloy cups pressed in to better tolerance frames so they don't need the retaining compound to hold them in or take up variation in...

The Chris King crew were my booth neighbors at NW Tune-Up this past weekend and had some good chats with them. Turns out they have a mad scientist on staff who actually formulated and makes their own grease, it's not just white labeled stuff. Pretty cool.

Haha! Well, I'm certainly an average guy (or below,) but I feel like I can put a little more push into the front wheel with DHFs and they'll push back. The Assegai just feels like it has a limit and that's it. To me, anyway. Keep in mind I ride on dry, hard terrain 99.9% of the time. I think it's the soft compound that helps more than anything. I'm on a Magic Mary up front on my new bike and I don't like it much at all. I'm going to F around at the bike park this summer and...

Apart from never getting your fork out or replace bearings again, it's probably not a great idea sorry. A little bit of thick waterproof grease is all it should need, mostly to help the parts settle in to each other and tighten up when installed.
