maybe. that may just be a marketing claim as every review I've seen of the vee radial says that they feel mostly like a bias ply tire and not at all like a schwalbe radial. if it is 90 degrees, it's reinforced so much that it is no longer supple.

Thanks a good question, which is often asked... Well, we separate our brakes into three categories: Light duty (2 piston), Heavy duty (4 piston) and Extreme duty (4 piston). The difference between Heavy and Extreme are mostly heat capacity and wear limit. That's why GUSTAV uses thick pads, thick rotors (2.5 mm), which both give a longer duration until you have to buy new ones AND the massive caliper - together with the thick rotor - offer an immense heat resistance. This bit me when ordering the Romy/Tacky Chan "new" radials, since the 1st gen Schwalbe radials were all branded "pro". I totally thought pro == radial, which it does not.

No the parts are not compatible. The MT master have 10 mm master piston and the RACE PRO 12 mm. This would result in a lower hydraulic ratio, making the brake really weak. Here’s also a simple phone shot of the two systems for comparison. (note: the reach dial on the RACE is silver in serial. See magura.com)

We deliberately use 12 and 19 mm pistons to reduce the pressure level within the brake system. Lower system pressure puts less strain on the system, especially the seals, and also improves the bite point because the hose expands less under pressure. This is also one of the reasons why we don’t use braided steel hoses. 9/23/2026 12:05am Why not using a stiffer hose and have more pressure/power with a smaller master piston rather than going 12mm to decrease the piston pressure and therefore loose power at the same time?

I found that although the kryptotals still had knobs present after 50 bike park days, the grip on rock slabs was awful compared to new. Also the side knobs started to get ripped at the base which led to some untrustworthy cornering. The knobs still being present made me think, wow these last forever, but the performance was pretty bad toward the end of life. The conti supersoft rubber is hard compared to maxxis, and as you'd expect they roll pretty fast because of that.

Slight edge to a Nic for rolling speed. Could put it on the rear? I personally like the Diagonal / Radial mixed setup. Romy is much more grippy. For a bike like the optic, having romy on both wheels would fit the bikes capability well.

The Race Pro line will come out next year. For the most part this would be tires with the previous 'Super Race' Turn-Up casing. A 29x2.4 Nobby Nic Trail Pro ( 11654142.02) weighs 1000g. Not a Radial though. They 29x2.4 Romy Trail Pro Radial (1040g) is quick despite what you might think of the weight number, and it is great for trail riding.

@schwalbai or any others with insider knowledge at Schwalbe, is the Nobby Nic going to to be released in a radial casing? Or any Schwalbe in a trailish tread that will weigh 900 or so grams? I'm thinking of a Forecaster type tire...
