Blake_Motley Added a reply to Shimano Drops New 2.2mm Thick Rotors in 200/220mm Sizes - Thoughts?
1 day ago This opinion is several years out of date. Incidentally that’s how out of date new Shimano products are.

6/13/2026 1:50pm Last fall, I noticed that some Shimano factory-supported teams had riders still rocking the M9120 lever over the new M9220, and I'm still seeing it today. Guys like Luke-MS on Giant and Ryan G of Yeti in enduro, and other random bikes in pit videos. What could the explanation for this be? For all intents and purposes, the M9220 is a better, updated version, so what reasons could there be not to make the swap? Like, when Mavens came out, it felt overnight that everyone was using them, and we haven't (and won't) see a Code RSC on any of...

6/12/2026 4:01pm I have one of the Seekrun demo posts that they were handing out a few weeks ago on that tour they did on my Chisel to test right now. The top is tall because the actuator is in it, but over all it works really well. I tore it down before I put it on and added some more lube. They also very much show how its completely user serviceable other than the cartridge and have new actuators and batterys availible if anything goes wrong in them. China is definitely coming for the bike industry while a lot of other...

6/11/2026 12:21pm I was listening to a road biking podcast recently. One of the guests on the podcast is currently a DS for a bigger team and used to be a world tour rider. One of the things that came up in discussion is how absolutely insane the new generation of riders are. They are SO fast. They are SO good in their training. They are SO dialed in their nutrition and recovery. The guest made a point to bring up an interesting-to-me factoid: They can't let the younger riders anywhere near the big-name riders during team training rides. None of them...

6/11/2026 10:37am They aren't stupid, but many top execs in the industries I worked in just don't care about long term. The "let's crush this quarter's numbers and land a massive bonus today because tomorrow, we may not be here" is the name of their game.

6/10/2026 4:21pm Great question. To your point, I think the cannibalism is worse than that, because instead of wanting multiple pedal bikes for different sorts of pedal days with granular differences between each model, one ebike is pretty much fine for everything. In the past, as a MTB pedaler, I would have loved to have at least three mountain bikes: a long travel enduro bike, a shorter travel trail bike, and maybe a hardtail or XC bike. Maybe more. If I wanted to give up on pedaling and get an ebike instead, I don't need two ebikes. For ebikers who want to...

6/10/2026 11:58am Posting this here because it seems more bikeonomics related than tech rumours related, but it's sort of in reply or brought about to the discussion going on over there. I'm curious about eMTBs's impact on the MTB "market cap", whether you want to measure that by industry dollars or total number of riders or some other metric ("rider cap?"). I don't think this can be answered decisively as we haven't had enough years of clean data (setting aside any data-gathering difficulties or whether that's really happening industry wide) in the sense that eMTB has really only taken off recently in...

6/10/2026 10:48am Ive been pondering the e-bike vs regular bike debate a bit recently, and if that conflict is unique to North America only at this point? From what I gather, Europe has heavily embraced e-biking in all forms, to the point where is it somewhat the default choice for most people. Here in the US, the debate of e-bike vs regular bike is still very much a point on contention, but that seems to be something unique to America biking culture, and not so much the rest of the world. Am I wrong on this, or is American protestant work/suffer culture...

6/10/2026 10:42am Trek would be smart to pull an Orbea. Combine your DH/Enduro into one and base it on your long travel e-bike. 3 in 1.

6/10/2026 10:00am Do we think we’re gonna see more brands go the way of Specialized—seemingly leaning into the ‘Downhill as the F1 of MTB’ narrative, or are we gonna see more E-bike chassis pull double duty a la Crestline and Forbidden?

6/9/2026 5:29pm This is grotesque. But I wonder what kind of range you could get out of it if you were to really stretch out the motor and match a traditional bike packing effort

6/8/2026 4:51pm I’d like to see an articulating lower chain guide that releases tension at the same rate chain growth adds it. Theoretically this would isolate the clutch from the suspension even if it’s exceptionally tight
