You’ll be fine, ride yer damn bike. Conditions are bumpy and blown on the fast stuff but they are always bumpy and blown. Just go ride tech in the woods if you don’t want to rattle your fillings out.

Riders' goals matter, this is where racing and daily riding for nine-to-fivers diverge. Enduro and DH racers want the fastest speed going down, recreational riders are looking for the best compromise to reduce suffering on the way up. The people I ride with only care about speed when climbing . For descending we want confidence and predictability. Confidence = speed for us. The tire that is fastest descending changes 150 times a year based on the specific trail and the amount of moisture (or complete lack thereof). My ideal tires for a weekday lunch ride on Galbraith flowy stuff are...

The World Cup goes back-to-back with riders leaving La Thuile and landing in the high and dry venue of Andorra. The Pal Arinsal DH track is fast and bike-parky up top as it develops into rougher, natural terrain through the bottom half. DH race day is Saturday w/ qualis on Friday. We'll open up Fantasy when we get the quali start list and until then, here's the weather and rider entry list. Weather looks like it could be primo for race day with Thursday and Friday showers. DH Entry List (may not reflect actual race start list)

Effigear had or has the option of a nonconcentric output. Cavaliere bikes used it in the past. As for two cassettes in a box, you actually need like two 11-25 cassettes to get 516% of range if you run them "back to front" like in the shimano patent. Two 10-50 cassettes, besides definitely not fitting, would give you 2500 % of range. That's a bit much.

If you were looking for an O-chain compatible Shimano crank for DH, I've wondered before if you could just use XT 8130 (Superboost) cranks on 83mm shell bikes without the 4.5mm spindle spacers on both sides? How would a 73mm shell with 9mm of spindle spacers be functionally different than a 83mm shell with no spacers (other than the 1mm difference)?

This meme continues to be a poor interpretation of carcinization/convergent evolution... The crab is not some final form that everything is destined to become. The lesson from carcinization is that unrelated species independently evolved into crab-like bodies. Not that we will one day all be crabs. I think a more fitting example of carcinization in the bike industry would be floating brake arms: a variety of bike manufactures independently arriving at a similar tech to solve the same problem. And at the end of the day, that shit is sitting at the bottom of the ocean

I typically use the climb switch once per ride. I like to turn it on halfway up the climb when I remember I have it and might as well use it. I tend to turn it off halfway down the descent when I’m puzzling over why my suspension isn’t working. I suspect I am not in the minority.
