Fresh pod with Ethan Eggert from Arid Cycles! It was really cool chatting this morning and hearing about how Ethan had basically no background in mountain bike development/manufacturing but just stuck with his goal/vision for the last few years and has put together a seriously compelling and unique bike. Sure looks like it. Seems a little weird for PON to be backing this when their existing wheel brand (Reserve) seems to have made huge headway in the in both aftermarket and OE spec in the last few years. Maybe the One Up wheels are supposed to be a more budget oriented product?

Race #2 of the 2026 World Cup DH calendar takes place this week in Loudenvielle, France. Keep tabs on the action, news and social posts right here. We'll have photo Pit Bits from Rick Schubert dropping and Vital Fantasy as the week progresses (no Lawlor at this round). Not in NA Seth. Margin varies product to product, including within a model line of bikes. It's true that the bigger your order/booking, the more discount you get, but you might get 35% on an entry level hardtail and 18% on a top of the line ride.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm considering building one because I got a really really good deal on a Dorado. I live 7h from the closest lift assisted park, and ride park like once or twice a year...

This a common straw man argument I see on this topic. It’s important to remember that anyone capable of going that fast uphill is only do so with a lifetime of skills as a foundation . Anyone in a pro xco race is likely never putting out 1500w in that race, and if the are it’s for about 5 seconds during a sprint finish. Theres just a lot more nuance man. Had to log in to say I’m proud of you all. Thank you. It can be disappointing to read all the derivative dead ends you guys can babble on about, fantasizing sports, speculative tech talk, finance guy biz (!)…so to see the unanimous support for a guy considering a DH bike is heartwarming. You haven’t totally lost it! DH bikes are the best bikes. Always. They’re the best bikes for the best stuff and they look the coolest. By far. If the place you’re riding only has one DH trail then you just ride that one over and over again...

Not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed, but I recently wrote down every bike that I’ve owned (and can remember) in a spreadsheet. Across genres including kid bikes, mountain (DH, XC, Trail), road/gravel, BMX, and dirt jumpers, I have owned 102 bikes. Some of these are just new frames with swapped over parts, but I consider that a different bike for this purpose. I might have a problem. The most bikes by far are BMX (26) and DJ (19), as I was a 6 night a week skatepark kid growing up. I wish my skills were better for...

A bunch of comparisons mainly looking at wheel force because that's what you really feel not the leverage curve. 160 mm bikes with different progression amounts normalized for identical sag at the wheel. Including -4%. The wheel force plot is purely looking at wheel force due to the spring. As you can see, there is a very significant difference at bottom of travel. If you were to zoom in on the sag point, you can easily see that a more progressive bike has a lower force at all points before the sag point and a higher force at all points...

Uh, that's most bike buyers. The number of people that I've sold bikes to who don't care/know what the knobs do is... the majority. We do our best to educate, but I could see their eyes glaze over in the first 10 seconds. The number of customers who care about how suspension works is less than 5% in my experience.

Running less sag makes a bike track poorly on account of losing contact with the ground anytime there’s an indent the wheel has to go over. You see the same exact issue with people lifting vehicles to drive off road. They throw preload collars on and all of the sudden they feel the truck is harsher. The spring rate hasn’t gotten stiffer so why does it feel harsher? I recently read an article by the enduro mag. They made a survey and found out that 70% of their readers that took part in the survey never changed their rebound from what the bike came with. The amount of people riding bikes that dont have a clue about basic setup is very high. For them, something like the progression rate is not relevant.
