6/1/2026 6:56am My 1st Luca memory: He & Walker as little kids doing full sprint laps on the Hendersonville BMX track chasing Christopher Herndon. Walker was older & bigger but Luca was ferocious pedaling every single lap latched onto them & relentless. I was putting on races with buddies just to have races & we were so excited to have kids committed to DH suddenly. I’ve enjoyed watching the Shaw Brothers progress from little BMX groms to National Champs & now a World Cup winning family.

5/30/2026 5:17pm As long as there are tacos around is all good. You can't go wrong with tacos, even bad tacos are better than no tacos. Bikes are just bonus items for tacos.

5/29/2026 9:25pm Outpost Eats - throwing out a crazy rumour like "taco truck," so I had to investigate cause I've never had a taco there, and I love tacos. After some elite internet detective work, I am sad to say it's just quesadillas and bowls. The lemongrass pork bowl absolutely slaps, and the beer selection goes hard. Some Orbea folks who call Bellingham home are also fans of the Transition HQ.

5/29/2026 9:21pm "Speaking to the eBike riders I see on the trails here, they're all shifting to lower-priced bikes as they've realized that they can without sacrificing performance." This lines up with a hypothesis I've been thinking about for a while, which is that I think so much of the weirdness of the bike industry and bike customers (obsession with grams and weight, obsession over granular differences in tire feel and suspension tuning, and willingness to spend enormous amounts to customize and upgrade a stock bike) comes down to the weakness of the human motor and the human mind. We only generate...

5/29/2026 10:34am Haha, yeah that was me! I saw it again two weeks ago, it was full of telemetry devices this time. I asked when it was coming out and the guy tried to tell me it was a Pivot this time 'round. Can't imagine how it doesn't get released later this summer/fall as a '27 model considering how tidy it currently looks and the fact they are riding it at high noon on the most popular trail network in the Golden. Might need to just post up in the bushes with a camera next time...

5/26/2026 8:58pm Fresh pod with Ethan Eggert from Arid Cycles! It was really cool chatting this morning and hearing about how Ethan had basically no background in mountain bike development/manufacturing but just stuck with his goal/vision for the last few years and has put together a seriously compelling and unique bike. It's a good listen, enjoy! Arid is currently producing its first batch of 50 frames with delivery slated for this Fall. 5/26/2026 6:04pm Sure looks like it. Seems a little weird for PON to be backing this when their existing wheel brand (Reserve) seems to have made huge headway in the in both aftermarket and OE spec in the last few years. Maybe the One Up wheels are supposed to be a more budget oriented product?

We'll have photo Pit Bits from Rick Schubert dropping and Vital Fantasy as the week progresses (no Lawlor at this round). 5/25/2026 9:08am Not in NA Seth. Margin varies product to product, including within a model line of bikes. It's true that the bigger your order/booking, the more discount you get, but you might get 35% on an entry level hardtail and 18% on a top of the line ride.

5/24/2026 11:02am This a common straw man argument I see on this topic. It’s important to remember that anyone capable of going that fast uphill is only do so with a lifetime of skills as a foundation . Anyone in a pro xco race is likely never putting out 1500w in that race, and if the are it’s for about 5 seconds during a sprint finish. Theres just a lot more nuance man. No human is putting out world tour sprint finish power for the same duration as a 800wh battery Humans are creatures of the path of least resistance. If you...

5/24/2026 1:03am Had to log in to say I’m proud of you all. Thank you. It can be disappointing to read all the derivative dead ends you guys can babble on about, fantasizing sports, speculative tech talk, finance guy biz (!)…so to see the unanimous support for a guy considering a DH bike is heartwarming. You haven’t totally lost it! DH bikes are the best bikes. Always. They’re the best bikes for the best stuff and they look the coolest. By far. If the place you’re riding only has one DH trail then you just ride that one over and over again...

5/24/2026 12:23am Not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed, but I recently wrote down every bike that I’ve owned (and can remember) in a spreadsheet. Across genres including kid bikes, mountain (DH, XC, Trail), road/gravel, BMX, and dirt jumpers, I have owned 102 bikes. Some of these are just new frames with swapped over parts, but I consider that a different bike for this purpose. I might have a problem. The most bikes by far are BMX (26) and DJ (19), as I was a 6 night a week skatepark kid growing up. I wish my skills were better for...

5/23/2026 2:16pm A bunch of comparisons mainly looking at wheel force because that's what you really feel not the leverage curve. 160 mm bikes with different progression amounts normalized for identical sag at the wheel. Including -4%. The wheel force plot is purely looking at wheel force due to the spring. As you can see, there is a very significant difference at bottom of travel. If you were to zoom in on the sag point, you can easily see that a more progressive bike has a lower force at all points before the sag point and a higher force at all points...
