I think part of the problem is that "MTB" covers a really diverse range of riding styles, and for the different styles, a variety of engineering requirements and interests. It's easy for people (myself included) to only consider the style(s) of riding they do when they promote or bash posts. I agree that there might be interesting trickle-down technology from the latest "moped" innovations in MGUs for predominantly gravity-driven forms of pedal MTBs. While the idea of a gearbox that is comparable in weight in efficiency to a conventional 1X drive train is exciting, from the engineering side of things...

Know of any carbon XC bikes that use a gearbox? For the downhill and adventure crowd, gearboxes may be a reasonable solution, but the current offerings are not great for those of us that like to pedal a lot. Maybe they'll get there eventually, but at the moment they would add about 3.5 lbs to my 22 lb bike, while costing me a bit on efficiency. I'll stick with the 1860's technology until something observably better comes along.

I am going to be completely transparent here in that I work for FSA, but I will say I worked really hard on making the 31.8 40mm Gradient alloy bar one of the most compliant on the market. and here is the proof: (chart from PB article)

Could they get rid of lifetime warranty now that Crankbrothers has a lifetime alloy rim competing with them? Somewhere else in this thread someone said something about carbon wheels and how they take out an insurance policy per rim. The economics of this seem to make sense on $650 rims where a small fraction of riders are cracking rims and almost certainly only the rear so thats around 50% of the sold rims ever even with a chance making an insurance claim. Who knows on alloy. It's great branding that every single rim Reserve makes is lifetime. When someone asks...

While they're saying this is a test, they added the bolt holes for the idler on all production frames. I couldn't figure out what these were for, until today. Makes me think this "concept" is coming sooner than folks are letting on.

On one of the latest MTB Podcasts (WWC podcast) Adam, the founder of Revel, was more bullish then I've ever heard him be about bringing their DH bike concept to market. In the past his response boiled down to, I love the idea but it's not something that's at all on our radar. This last podcast, it was a lot of, Well, we have to make good business decisions, but it's definitely something we would love to do and it's on the list. I wouldn't be surprised to at least see Cam on a proto, or even a why cycles...

I dunno, they made the Rodeo as a proof of concept, wouldn't be too surprised if they resurrect that project...

I ran an assegai max grip DD for years, but tried a kryptotal super soft DH last year and won’t be going back. I was experiencing so many front wheel washouts and the sensation of skating through corners with the assegai, and couldn’t believe how much more confidence inspiring the kryptotal feels. So much more trust in that tire due...
Entire drivetrain industry scared that they already made the best mechanical components years ago and there is little room for improvement. Sandbagging the weight and material preserves the tier structure.

I also think it could be partly tire choice. I was an Assegai user for many years and tried a Kryptotal last year, and I 100% preferred it. I had way more front wheel washouts or the sensation of losing the front with the Assegai, and feel way more confident and predictable with the Conti.
