No no no, don't go there. We've been over this. Just let it go. We've had pages of trying to explain things back and forth with no success.

The "multiplier effect" is an economic fallacy. "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

That wild recent evacuation in Los Angeles was due to failure of a holding tank of epoxy used for windscreens on jet fighters. Dod is everywhere. And there is countless communities dependent on those contracts. Ultimately I don’t care about our government spending money in general. I care more about how they source that money (taxing wealthy folk versus borrowing) and that the money spent either a) directly pays money to poor folk or b) creates jobs. And having the world’s most advanced and funded military is an obvious strategic advantage. Even if we have often used that advantage some...

I would much rather have him be the guy doing trackside interviews before race , during race. I think his personality lends to that type or role better than talking about what he sees on a screen. I might watch the pre race if that was the case.

Torrent is clean. Bottle rocket is adjustable freeride. Quake is a capable race geo. (Iirc) Different bikes for different folks . I freeride and park my race bikes - and xc ride my enduro bike. But the world does seem to want FUN 27.5 park bikes and the racers do seem to want FAST DH WEAPONS. Why can’t we have both? The marketing isn’t even for us. There are literally armies of 15 year old boys AND GIRLS! Getting really into modern freeride, just riding down shit and off shit and being park rats in jnco jeans where I live...

I will probably get flamed for this, and will offer the caveat that I have only been skimming this page, but I feel like these bikes are great propositions and are in my eyes cool bikes because they’re made to be cheap and practical workhorses for younger demographics that don’t have as much disposable income and want a playful park bike that they can maintain themselves. Maybe I’m just haven’t been following the thread well enough, but I don’t see why the ebike bit is necessary to explain the appeal. Not everyone can afford bougie boutique racing machines, or ebikes...

Extremely hot take in the bad way lol. Marin makes awesome bikes, I regularly check them out. Transition as well, albeit a little spendier but also more dialed (imo). The only reason I don’t buy either is because I already own a 6 year old Norco that has given me zero reasons to spend money on a new bike,

I bet there's a link between the GoPro's decline and the soul crushing boredom of all the videos that our buddies made us watch.

Have not noticed any significant drag on my OneUp hubs but keeping that in the back pocket as an excuse the next time I'm last up the climb on a group ride.

I remember hearing that OneUp is going to be the MTB wheel brand, Reserve the gravel/road brand. OneUp already has hubs in their lineup.

Sure looks like it. Seems a little weird for PON to be backing this when their existing wheel brand (Reserve) seems to have made huge headway in the in both aftermarket and OE spec in the last few years. Maybe the One Up wheels are supposed to be a more budget oriented product?

Not in NA Seth. Margin varies product to product, including within a model line of bikes. It's true that the bigger your order/booking, the more discount you get, but you might get 35% on an entry level hardtail and 18% on a top of the line ride.

This seems completely unnecessary though. Financing and leasing cars makes sense because they are necessary in most of western society, but blingy brand new mountain bikes are not. You can have almost as much fun and exercise on a $700 marketplace hardail as a $12,000 ebike. Financing toys just seems like a bad idea, yet a ton of people already do it for SXS, boats, and motorcycles. Nice bikes are cool, but going into debt or leasing something because you need to keep up with Joe Shmo next door who has a Mercedes Sprinter van and pivot ebike with titanium...

Niner shutting shop shouldn't surprise anyone. They haven't done anything relevant in near a decade. Geo and aesthetics for their full sus platforms are very much off the back. That they lasted as long as they did was always a wonder to me.

99.5% of people looking for a GT or SC would have absolutely no fucking clue what Pon is lol. GT disappeared because all they had was their heritage, and that's not enough to carry a brand indefinitely as they pumped out mostly unappealing bikes year after year. I personally don't know anyone that considered buying one in recent memory. I had a GT bmx in 2006 and really liked it, so when I got properly into mountain biking I always looked at GT. Other options were always better. I stopped looking at them years ago. If GT was successful then...

I was thinking the other day about how disappointing the Nomad update was and how that translates to the bike industry still being screwed because serial buyers of bikes and frames (like us here) are just not excited to drop $3,500+ on any of these new frames. Combine this with the sheer amount of interesting bikes/frames in the back catalog that I’d love to try and are dirt cheap used: High pivot Optic, Range, Dreadnaught/Druid, Enduro, Tyee, Spindrift, Spur V1, SB165, Meta V5, Revel, HD6. Maybe it’s just the season of life I’m in after buying a new frame every...
