I thought you were the phd of bike design? If you can’t counter my point about the Sight and have to fall back on insults again…

You state immaterial change yet Norco sells bikes with size specific chain stays that vary in length by that amount, 5mm per size for the Sight as an example. As the owner of a aggressive steel hardtail with sliding dropouts, I can tell you that yes 4-5mm makes a noticable difference in handling whether its jumping, manuals, flat turns, berms or even climbing.

You did say longer was better. What else does "These qualities are some of the reasons rear centers have grown, especially on bikes aimed at going as fast as possible down a mountain." mean to you? I countered with data contrary to your opinion and you didn't care for it is all. Unless bikes aren't getting better?

Jeff thanks for the reply. I should’ve said first half and we could talk where in travel we usually ride (98% time under 70% of travel sounds boring as fuck) eventually ending up on the idea that pressing the bike down into corners is as much about increasing pressure on the tires for traction as it is about shortening the wheelbase to increase the bikes agility.

Vital archives of anything recent includes walls of text, bullet points, stock photos and a geo chart, action photos usually of fairly high quality and that’s about it. Honestly I feel like they are spending the time on the things that actually matter.

Bike makers aren’t including axle path, progression, anti-squat or anti-rise charts/data with most recent bike releases. Simple reason being that most reviewers get at least some of it wrong and most readers don’t understand it. After all, fast riders are fast regardless of most bikes currently made. It usually comes down to comfort and reliability for most reviews lately.

The obvious counterpoint to your argument that longer is faster is the Enduro Mag article comparing times of current top racers bikes as they race them. The fastest bikes were all “too small” with more balanced geo based on the effect of shorter reach and they also had “narrow” bars. Despite that proof, the testers admitted after the fact that they wouldn’t mimic those bike setups all the way even though they were quantifiably faster getting down the mountain.

What do you think axle path is describing?

Because most full suspension designs that aren’t high pivot have chainstay lengths that shorten significantly once past the first third of their travel.

I’m the same, I’m loving the low and slack part for where I ride, but having tried a few longer hard tails I think that an average reach makes for a good balance between stability and playfulness.

I would definitely be interested to try one sized down and see if a shorter reach but still an extremely slack ht angle could possibly work better for me. But having tried a few hardcore hardtails in the past I haven’t been a huge fan of the longer slacker movement on hardtails. (Love a...more

I bought a RSD Middlechild and at almost 6’4” I went with the large and that bike has been awesome! Clipless pedals and go for a long grind, flats and go have some fun, it’s really a multi-tool on two wheels.

I went through that sequence with my 2021 Enduro, it came with a gnardog plus one spacer and it was harsh. Pulling the dog out was too little, 2 spacers was a little soft still and just the dog was starting to get harsh again. Trying out a Jade X now which seems to have promise but it’s still early days.

That's just a placeholder for the prototype those rear triangles had some issues. For production both the front and rear triangles will be welded aluminum.

The VW/Audi analogy doesn’t work. Audi was previously owned by Daimler Benz and before that was Auto Union and before that separate company’s, hence the 4 rings.

Lexus and Acura are just the American market premium brands for Toyota and Honda, well originally. This is what Cheng Shin did with Maxxis essentially, created a new brand to sell at a premium.

Just sold my Pro Race the other day. It was a nice bike, quiet and rear suspension was great. The biggest drawback of the bike was in the wet, it was just too stiff. Not sure if it was the e13 dh carbon rims or what, but it didn’t like to stay on line in the wet. Good thing is they haven’t updated them yet so I didn’t get killed on the price when I sold it.
