Hey, I’m Ryan Burney. I’ve spent eight years as an engineer for full-suspension bikes, working on some fun projects, like developing the flex Horst link for the Cannondale Scalpel and being lead engineer for the latest GT Fury downhill bike. Use a sheet of stick-on car wheel balance weights as BB down tube protection. Speed weights are the new speed holes.

I agree it wouldn't surprise many if Danny retires, but I don't know if it would be a voluntary retirement rather than simply running out of options. If he's not on a factory team in 2027 I would like to see him show up as a privateer for a few European WC races as well as World Champs.

Wild throwback! I remember being so star struck that we were shuttling with Semenuk. He was as cool and mellow as imagined, and about twice as fast on a DH bike as expected. That day was definitely a core memory for me. I always wonder if Brandon even remembers spending a day riding some meh trails with a bunch of downhill groms that were riding way too hard to try and impress him lol

Danny Hart, Myriam Nicole or somebody else? Angel Suarez, can he get back on a decent sized team? Does he even want to?

Respectfully, were you able to change rear spring rate on both bikes? I can see that the V10 has a coil, but I can't tell on the TR11 because the shock is behind your leg. I ask because one of the worst days of bike riding in my life was when I rented a V10 from a shop in Creekside (maybe Coastal Culture Sports? I can't remember) that had a coil rear shock. I hadn't ridden a DH bike in years at that point and had been loving my XL 29" Megatower, so I was excited to see what a...

If you are going to ride the bike park and the option for a DH bike exists whether it is renting it or bringing your own, go with the DH bike. Even if you've never ridden a DH bike and think "oh, I don't know if I need a DH bike, maybe I'm not fast enough for a DH bike, maybe I won't be able to handle a DH bike, maybe it's too much bike for me." Shut up. You don't need that kind of negative talk in your life. Get the DH bike.

I just got back from a week long trip to whistler where due to some family issues (sick pet) and friends cancelling last minute, I was mostly riding alone. I know you're not going to want to hear this, but: On these SPD test rides, have you tried thinking about something other than your feet? If you focus on your feet while you're in clips, they're going to feel weird if you're used to flats, and weird is likely going to progress to bad and then terrible the more you think about it. I remember my first few rides on clips, coming from flat pedals. Those first few rides were on Shimano SPD pedals that felt icy exactly like you describe. But then, over next few weeks, I did...

Steel singlespeed with trail geo, built lightish, and a capable enduro bike built heavy. If I was adding a bonus it would be a cyclocross bike. The singlespeed means near zero maintenance, ride all year. The enduro covers everything else. This set up would mirror what I have but require culling a couple, and I think I’d be ok with that.

Right, which is why I struggle with it. I’m reaching for the DH bike and Enduro bike within the same week repeatedly. We’ve got ~4 months out of the year the bike park is open. I’m not skipping trail rides for four months. I guess maybe if you own a trail bike to go along with it but kind of defeats the one bike thing.
