5/26/2026 7:22pm The big play for hub manufacturers has always been wheels. I recall one of the major rim and hub manufacturers once telling me if they had their time again they would have gone into the spoke game for truly wild margins. I could see one up becoming the mid tier MTB wheel option and reserve the ahem, reserve/top tier option. PON have a strategic advantage being able to spec wheels on their own bikes too.

5/26/2026 7:19pm Have not noticed any significant drag on my OneUp hubs but keeping that in the back pocket as an excuse the next time I'm last up the climb on a group ride.

5/26/2026 3:03pm Why not ride the already available Supernought? Or are they totally moving away from that suspension platform for long travel too?

5/22/2026 7:56am Running less sag makes a bike track poorly on account of losing contact with the ground anytime there’s an indent the wheel has to go over. You see the same exact issue with people lifting vehicles to drive off road. They throw preload collars on and all of the sudden they feel the truck is harsher. The spring rate hasn’t gotten stiffer so why does it feel harsher? It’s losing contact with the ground and causing the chassis to pitch to allow a wheel to drop into a hole as soon as a hole is deeper than the amount of...

5/22/2026 7:55am You have less to push against with a more linear bike. If you look at wheel force normalized for sag it all makes more sense than just looking at leverage curve. The wheel force is always identical at the sag point when normalized for sag. The more progressive layout will have a higher wheel force past sag and lower wheel force before sag in comparison.

5/21/2026 3:47pm Maybe Im missing something but how in the right mind is a company like Santa Cruz releasing a bike with very little travel, high price point, and the rear shock comes stock with all of its tokens in use? If you needed more resistance youre just up shit creek until Cascade makes something? Im genuinely so confused how they go from a well done VPP to a simple 4 bar and screwed that up when every other company can do it. Like who signed off on this?

5/20/2026 11:13am Lots of talk about how it's 300g lighter, but in nearly the same XT di2 build, the intense spider is .2 lbs lighter than the Tallboy and 1400 dollars cheaper.

5/18/2026 6:16pm I’ve never ever heard 5010 hype like the last 2 days of this thread. It actually makes me want to try one bad. I ride a previous gen sight 27.5. Bought it when the 27/29 wars were happening, and before mullet, and I ended up on the wrong side of history lol. I really wish I folded to the hype...

5/18/2026 6:05pm Same here, my 5010 will be pried from my cold dead hands. I’ve even done a 40mi 7k ft XCM race on it 3 times (with XC tires) In all 3 of those giant rides I was never wishing my bike weighed just .66 lbs less or had 10mm more dropper insertion. (I’m 6ft and can run a 210 🤷♂️) It’d be a shame from a branding perspective if they killed the 5010 model name too. It’s iconic in its own right and there’s still a ton of people out there who think 50to01 is the same thing lol.

5/18/2026 6:04pm Somebody I know that used to work at GT said that a few years ago when POV videos were popping off on YouTube, Phil Kmetz (SkillsWithPhil) was one of the biggest single drivers of sales for them. Of course Wyn and T-Mac sold to core mountain bikers, but for casual observers of the sport, or people with entry level bikes looking to get their next upgrade, "influencers" and social media personalities that people can relate to drive a lot of mid range sales. In addition, you're right that they coasted on their legacy. A guy walking into a LBS might...

5/17/2026 7:55pm I’d love to see a shoot out of trail bikes using the same linkage designs. It would really interesting to start to dig a bit deeper as to what sets them apart - quality control, kinematics, maintenance, etc etc.

5/16/2026 6:55am I’m not pro-Evil but dude this is like bringing up the Pinto as a reason not to get a new Ford. There may be plenty of relevant and current reasons but this isn’t one.
