I have a 22 pike at 150mm on my v1 tempo and it seems like the perfect fork for the bike. its 31lbs with a waterbottle and a tool. I've hit some pretty big jumps and drops on it and i weight 190-200. I don't think I need a beefier fork. 36sl seems like a good fit but Rockshox needs to have a lighter 150 fork offering. I also agree the older build kits fit the bike a little more.

In the days of the 36SL, I'm not sure why any 140mm or less bike is getting a new Lyrik, other than supplier partnerships. Seems like the 36SL is the objectively optimal fork for the Tempo. Is the Pike really too flexy to hammer? Anyway, now here's my maybe even hotter take: Sure, the commencal might be Cat 5, but I don't think bike companies can justify a short travel bike breaking or being less durable because people might ride it too hard. I've got both the new Zeb and Lyrik, and ran the previous versions of both. Old Zeb I had to run an MRP Noken to use most of my travel as opposed to only 2/3, at pressures that were reasonable for the first half of travel. Old Lyrik I had no such issues, but it was noticeably more flexy fore/aft and torsionally than old Zeb. Both new forks are a lot more linear and I'm able to use full travel on big landings at baseline pressures (then add ABO to give some reserve). New Lyrik is more linear than new...

to me there's never been any fence sitting. I would not use exo+ on the rear of a long travel bike going fast in rocky terrain. front, maybe, if they've been durable for you. cut a tire? get a heavier casing until you stop cutting them. if you know you can cut exo+ and you insist on using it anyway, you're eventually going to lose riding time and money replacing a tire that failed before it was worn out. same applies to DD. there are some folks who need DH casing on the rear on bikes that get pedaled it's...

You answered your question. Romy 2.5. At least rear, front maybe doesn't do much for you overall rolling speed. I'd love to see some nerdy data about actual speed increases in front vs rear tires. Rear certainly makes more impact than front, but I wonder how much. For example, maybe on a 1 minute climb changing from albert to romy increases speed 2 seconds (3%), but on the front, 0.5 (0.08%).

On this general train of thought, one thing I always thought could be genuinely beneficial to the consumer is size specific build kits, particularly on a bike like this. Put a 34 and exo tyres on the smaller sizes, with a 36 and exo+ tyres on the larger sizes. You could do similar things for rotors, bar width etc. More part numbers for the product managers but hey, we can dream.

This is a slight derail but I agree. My hot take is that the ride quality of the new Lyrik will never be good enough to justify the weight. The previous one was awesome, and so was the one before that. The fact that is being praised as much as it is, opens the door for the other big dogs to keep beefing up. Current Lyrik is nearly identical in weight to the previous gen 38... The Pike was a quality enduro fork in 2017... Please spec 120-140 fork travel bikes with pikes/non-obese Lyriks/36SLs or even 34's. I'm so sick...

Settling on 23% sag for a 170mm bike seems kinda whack, like you may have been working around some oddity in the kinematic or shock tune. I'm curious what you normally run on bikes with a similar amount of travel? Like, is 23% a little bit different for you, or a lot?

Pretty sure that case went back to the original maestro bikes in 2005 that didn't have a shared lower link/shock mount. Probably why they changed it later!

New Tempo is live. Such a rad looking bike but I struggle to think who would buy one in reality. The one available complete model is much burlier then what was offered with the V1, although travel is still the same. I think I'd prefer the older version spec wise, would be fun with some light tyres. Pic below for context.

The m29 and tracer (last gen) both had “cero” on them. I think the carbine did as well? They were all GREAT looking bikes.

I also thought the dw patent had some pretty specific anti-squat values, given there are plenty of dual short link designs that came before. (my Schwinn rocket 88 for example)
