5/12/2026 12:09pm Long time lurker, first time poster here. For some background I’m an aerospace composites engineer and spent several years in Advanced Product Development with an emphasis on environmentally friendly materials. There’s so much to get into on this topic and if folks are interested I’d love to start a dedicated thread on materials and environmental impacts. The TLDR is, carbon fiber as a green product on its own is a fallacy. The raw fiber production may result in a certain level of carbon sequestering, but the process is still so energy intensive I wouldn’t call it an environmental positive. As...

5/11/2026 2:34pm Would love to see this convo moved over to a thread called “thermoplastic debate/discussion” or similar. This is a dead end technology for now but I understand that a lot of you like talking about it.

5/10/2026 3:43pm Are thermoplastics commercially viable though? GG and Forge + Bond are both in the toilet. Did anyone make it work?

5/1/2026 12:10pm I agree with that analysis for almost every type of component but I would have thought O-Chain would be an outlier. I can't see that many OEMs putting O-Chain on bikes other than DH bikes, primarily because it's a large cost they can cut that a non-enthusiast consumer that walks into a shop will not notice if it's a regular chainring instead, but will notice the extra couple hundred dollars in cost. DH bikes are also so much less of the overall market share, and most of them are bought by hardcore enthusiasts that are likely to customize the components...

5/1/2026 12:10pm Dude you’re not kidding. every garage in my neighborhood has a couple bikes in it and ZERO people give a shit about how I finally found a Doubledown Aggressor. I’ve even caught a couple of them look at me weird when I’m checking my wife’s e-scooter tires with a digital gauge. Retired Coast Guard neighbor looked me straight in the eyes and said he’d never heard of the Denim Destroyer. Come ON dude now you’re playing games

4/24/2026 1:22pm DH bikes aren't made to have wide appeal to consumers, the current demo is an obvious sign of that. Respectfully, they do not care if the consumer would be miffed at an expensive cassette or don't really care about total cost of the frame +/- 500-1000. Besides, it's not an either or... maintaining UDH compatibility still allows for cheaper, standard mount drivetrains that have a variety of cost options. There is no reason that they wouldn't go to a UDH design when all of their other rear triangles are headed that direction. It seems obvious that they would go to...

4/20/2026 11:18am Sure, I get why they're doing it, but am i missing a link/connection on the inside of the pocket that the actual pedalling forces are transmitted through to the larger ring? Is the mini ring just basically a jockey wheel/guide? I just have a hard time getting my head around the tiny ring standing up to Bruni's probably 1800w sprint...

4/20/2026 2:08am Am I a moron, or is all of the drive provided on the Demo by that ultra tiny chainring at the crank? Clearly it works but I wonder what the reasoning is?
