I was in the garage doing some work to one of my bikes over the weekend and watching old mtb movies... I had the thought of going through a few of these and re-watching them as a community and sharing things we noticed/appreciated... thus the idea for this thread. Maybe I'm nostalgic for a more simple time in mountain biking and mountain bike culture or maybe I'm subconsciously lamenting the barrage of short form content that evaporates in the blink of an eye. Either way, I feel like this is may be a fun way to re-live and re-discover these...

My guess is they’ll phase out the aluminum Reserve products to position Reserve as the premium product with a premium warranty. It would be a sneaky way to quietly stop offering a lifetime warranty/replacement on aluminum wheels too.

While they're saying this is a test, they added the bolt holes for the idler on all production frames. I couldn't figure out what these were for, until today. Makes me think this "concept" is coming sooner than folks are letting on.

You are correct, thanks for making mention before I could catch up in this thread. On longer climbs I would take the chain off but most times I just wouldn't care to. The bigger problem was the chain length in my largest rear cog when using the lower guide, only a problem during climbing though. The system was great while descending. But I just run the ochain now instead of the lower guide because it's manages the chain whipping and is less faff.

5/19/2026 11:30am I was thinking over the weekend that GoPro has kind of fallen off in terms of relevance, but thought maybe some media company like Red Bull would be interested in buying them just for the content they make? But then again, maybe no point in doing so if DJI/Insta360 are making as good/better products anyways.

Strength and stretching are both really important for bike handling and long-term durability as a rider. Duh. But sometimes trying to just be more tough isn't the best answer. I think a great test for whether it's a strength problem or an ergonomic problem has been "does it hurt all over, or does it hurt in one very specific place?" If it hurts all over, it probably means I'm too weak, and the pain I'm feeling is just part of the process of getting tougher, i.e. callouses, grip strength, sinew and soft tissue getting more resilient, etc. Lord knows I...

Long time lurker, first time poster here. For some background I’m an aerospace composites engineer and spent several years in Advanced Product Development with an emphasis on environmentally friendly materials. There’s so much to get into on this topic and if folks are interested I’d love to start a dedicated thread on materials and environmental impacts. I spent a good chunk of last night trying to evaluate DJI's move through the lens of business and corporate strategy. While it might sound far-fetched, I genuinely believe DJI could be making a move that fundamentally changes the landscape of the e-mtb industry. Unfortunately I'm an idiot, so I'll answer your question even if it is sarcastic. I found a known value that's easy to measure, the rear brake rotor. I set it to 203mm (as mentioned in a bike check from my memory) 16.2cm = 6.377 inch, rounded up however the app used rounds things and also not a perfect angle. Closest match for phone size would be a Iphone 16/17 pro max at 16.3 cm or a google pixel 9/10 at 6.3 inches. I'm going to go with the iphone 16/17 pro max. I should touch grass.
