I also read 52 books last year! Well, I didn't exactly read each book all the way through. But I read the title on the spine, and if it sounded promising, I looked at the pictures on the cover and read the rest of the book jacket.

For years people have been asking for MGUs from SRAM and Shimano and there has long been speculation that those brands didn’t get involved because they didn’t want to undermine their own market share of expensive, high wear components. In doing so they’ve left their flank wide open for a Chinese company to swallow up the drivetrain market while solving issues riders have complained about for decades. Horrific miscalculation from the drivetrain cartel.

Blame Warner is a really bad take on this, Pon is shutting their factory down and cutting 120 jobs, Warner have nothing to do with this.

This is a Toyota style CVT, not a belt driven snow machine type

Agreed that this motor/CVT is predictable, inevitable, and nonetheless a really BFD for the ebike market and makers of traditional derailleur-driven drivetrains. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but high performance eMTB sales represent a very small market, whereas the real effects of this are going to be seen in the touring/commuter/pavement pounder market. I'd wager Shimano and SRAM sells 100 times more derailleurs/shifters/cassettes to the touring/commuter/pavement pounder ebike market vs. what they sell for high end eMTBs.

MGU = motorgearboxunit meaning electric motor and gearbox in one housing without the need for a derailleur and a big cassette. Regenerative braking would be a cool feature but I don't see that in the near future due to the necessity to transport energy over the chain/belt the other way around than normal. And I think the effect wouldn't be that big either as you can only replace the braking of the back wheel and most braking should be done in the front.

Nah they've made their money out of the v2 model thats been out for the last few months. When the bikes are on months of back order, you can be sure Avinox have already been paid for their parts. All other ebikes obsolete (allegedly). an MGU will be next years (or 2028s) hottest product so everyone needs to buy a...

New rumor. Canyon has a press release (which was revised afterwards removing MG) that at eurobike they'll have a long travel mtb with a prototype Avinox labled 'MG'. Might be a gearbox motor combo.

they should use actual moto parts... because they are fucking eMotos. I hate those fucking bikes.

"or geometry prescription like road bikes are." the UCI has made a number of attempts to regulate road and time trial bikes position and geometry... and usually they base the rules around a medium-large man. Then comes the amendment or extra clause that people over 180cm (category 2) or over 190cm (category 3) get slightly different rules once they work...

Only a matter of time before some utter moron at one of the drier race venues sets fire to the forest with one of those flares.

there was one section in the woods where someone had an incredibly smoky flare. luckily they were downwind of the immediate portion of the track. I wonder if they thought of that, or if it was just 50:50 luck that they were not putting a massive smoke screen over the track. Sure its not fun for other spectators nearby either...

With regards to "cant believe we used to use "X" brakes!" Remember wheels were probably 26" or 650b, which have a better mechanical advantage compared with the current 29" wheels. The larger rotors were a year or two behind the bigger wheels iirc

Going to add my opinion that protected riders was f'ing stupid. Ironically an elite bro-club of top teams working to prioritise TV time for their big-bucks athletes at the expense of newer riders and small teams and privateers is exactly what WB and Chris Ball frequently get accused of doing but the worst example was a hangover from the redbull...

Hottake, The new Q1 and Q2 formats are great and I much prefer it over rider protected status as its probably the most fair way to narrow the field down. Does it mean some really popular riders lose out? Yep. Does it also mean that seasonal consistency is more rewarded in WC overall standing points? Also yes. Seems odd to have both protected riders AND riders trying to qualify all in one group. It's either we lock the field to the same 30 riders for each race or everyone needs to qualify for finals. No offense to riders like Danny...

Seems like sram has a new dropper lever+flight attendant button combo. Comes on the new scott spark models that has flight attendant but no axs dropper. For example, Specializeds Epic 8/9 pro models with flight attendant and wired dropper, just comes without a pod for the flight attendant, which I always thought was strange.

One of the things that came up in discussion is how absolutely insane the new generation of riders are. They are SO fast. They are SO good in their training. They are SO dialed in their nutrition and recovery. The guest made a point to bring up an interesting-to-me factoid: They can't let the younger riders anywhere near the big-name...
