5/21/2026 8:58pm Running less sag makes a bike track poorly on account of losing contact with the ground anytime there’s an indent the wheel has to go over. You see the same exact issue with people lifting vehicles to drive off road. They throw preload collars on and all of the sudden they feel the truck is harsher. The spring rate hasn’t gotten stiffer so why does it feel harsher? It’s losing contact with the ground and causing the chassis to pitch to allow a wheel to drop into a hole as soon as a hole is deeper than the amount of...

5/21/2026 8:48pm I'll be honest, 15% is pretty low. Not V1 Sentinel low but getting there. Definitely down in the "huh" range. The only way I'd ever expect to get that to not bottom out in the parking lot with a coil is run practically no sag or run an unreasonable amount of damping. I had a V2 Hightower as a personal bike for a bit. It was significantly more progressive with a little more travel and a little more shock stroke to work with. I put a DHX2 on it once for the sake of experimenting. At 30% sag it would...

5/19/2026 7:45am That being said there are times I like the assegai more, love a Mary or similar, and the dissector has been a phenomenally fast front tire. You kinda can’t go wrong with tires right now.

5/19/2026 7:43am I have the same trouble with new butchers. Specialized tires are super sticky on the first couple rides. Seems like mold release or maybe the rubber is just extra sticky until it gets dirty/broken in.

5/17/2026 8:20am @Glory831Guy - even then, you can retune a shock easier than deal with a poorly thought out or manufactured frame.

5/15/2026 7:39am This but they must be marketed as park bikes. I wonder how the Status 170 DH sold. As far as I’m concerned every rental fleet should be those instead of 200mm travel DH race bikes.

5/15/2026 7:35am RR is the most successful enduro rider ever plus the sb160 the most successful enduro bike, why shouldn‘t they celebrate that with some special editions… especially when the successor bike is on the horizon

5/15/2026 7:35am To me Enduro is the most interesting and all skills encompassing form of mtb racing. It's just that bike racing (other than Tour de France, which I love watching) as a whole is difficult to package and translate to the TV screen for the masses to enjoy.

5/13/2026 9:21am One thing missing here is the fact that with the proliferation of composite know how, there are more people around able to safely repair a wider range of issues. Rather than pretending we are recycling carbon bikes I’d love to see more frames designed in ways that facilitate repair. Repair is verifiable in a way that recycling is not, it is cost effective for everyone concerned, and it is as close as you’ll get to good for the environment. It probably flows on to other design decisions to ensure repair is viable (like bearing placement, etc etc), but designing bikes...

5/13/2026 9:02am “Why do these new grips feel like crap?” weeks pass “Why does my right grip have a big L on the end? … Oohhhhh” I also found myself the other day mistaking the ft-lb scale on my new torque wrench for the Nm scale so now I’m wondering what bolts on my bike are fighting for their lives rn.
