I want long chainstays on all bikes except BMX and Dirt jump bikes or trials bikes. For mtb it's better at climbing and keeps the bike more balanced.

100% agree with (some of) that musician/instrument analogy. At this point, for me, tuning is so quick and natural that it happens almost mindlessly. For the first little bit of learning guitar, though, I wasn't pushing my fingers down in a way that would even allow the guitar to be in tune or ring notes out clearly. So, I got as close to tuned as I could and then I learned how to play well enough and how to push down consistently enough that even had a chance at being in tune. I could hear it was out but no...

Forgot: Imagine if electronic suspension blinked a red light or sent a message to your phone when it is being ridden way off (in sag for example), maybe some riders could be swayed to at least set sag right. (rebound etc could be automatically) adjusted. Smile

Bracketing with a new rider would be rough.. I usually just try to get a little feedback based on what they feel and look at what the fork a shock are telling me.. Make changes based on that and tell them to ride some more.. Repeat the next time you see them.. At that point, you are really trying to fine tune a set-up like you would with a more skilled and experienced rider, you are just trying to get them into a decent starting point that at least feels comfortable for them..

I think the issue is not being able to establish what the problem is because your riding isn’t consistent enough and therefore you don’t actually know what you are trying to fix. No one wants to try to problem solve a problem that they can’t even read. You shooting in the dark, unsure about the validity of potential solutions, and potentially don’t understand the complicated relationship between all the systems so you might actually end up fucking something up terribly. It’s not surprise many people don’t want to tinker.

Thinking of myself, I don't know that I'm that consistent of a rider yet. I'm similar to your friend in that I'm a musician and someone who isn't afraid to dive into the details of anything. I've been riding 3 years and I find myself a little too inconsistent in my riding to imagine bracketing to be a super useful practice. I feel like I'll get more out of trusting my bike and just learning to ride it better. If I were to guess, one of the things your friend and I might also have in common is that we...

I am not seeing how the last 4 pages of this thread have anything to do with rumors or innovation.

If she’s anything like my wife, give her the previous tire combo that she used.

Running less sag makes a bike track poorly on account of losing contact with the ground anytime there’s an indent the wheel has to go over. You see the same exact issue with people lifting vehicles to drive off road. They throw preload collars on and all of the sudden they feel the truck is harsher. The spring rate hasn’t gotten stiffer so why does it feel harsher? It’s losing contact with the ground and causing the chassis to pitch to allow a wheel to drop into a hole as soon as a hole is deeper than the amount of...

I'll be honest, 15% is pretty low. Not V1 Sentinel low but getting there. Definitely down in the "huh" range. The only way I'd ever expect to get that to not bottom out in the parking lot with a coil is run practically no sag or run an unreasonable amount of damping. I had a V2 Hightower as a personal bike for a bit. It was significantly more progressive with a little more travel and a little more shock stroke to work with. I put a DHX2 on it once for the sake of experimenting. At 30% sag it would...

That being said there are times I like the assegai more, love a Mary or similar, and the dissector has been a phenomenally fast front tire. You kinda can’t go wrong with tires right now.

I have the same trouble with new butchers. Specialized tires are super sticky on the first couple rides. Seems like mold release or maybe the rubber is just extra sticky until it gets dirty/broken in.
@Glory831Guy - even then, you can retune a shock easier than deal with a poorly thought out or manufactured frame.

This but they must be marketed as park bikes. I wonder how the Status 170 DH sold. As far as I’m concerned every rental fleet should be those instead of 200mm travel DH race bikes.

Having resisted the temptation of a sarcastic reply, "course marking" and "anti-doping control" are handled by different people.
