7/21/2026 10:14am Anyone think its crazy that a gearbox bike might win the EDR overall? After 2 pages of gearbox efficiency talk he ends up at the top.

7/20/2026 9:32am This. The industry hates leaks because they’re still trying to sell the old shit to you while they’re making the shops book preorders. I think snow is different in that they probably sell through by summer and so leaks don’t impact sales as much. But leaks are good for riders because we don’t have all the money and deserve to...

7/20/2026 9:25am Is that the rule? Are there rules? Because catalog snaps have happened heaps of times in the OG thread. Obviously don’t lose your job - but these are just brands owned by banks / syndicates / second generation founders nepo kids - and we are the 0.01% who care to see this stuff. newschoolers.com has an epic next year gear thread where everyone is sharing catalog snaps and tradeshow samples. I think this audience is hyper niche and most of the stuff on this thread never makes it past this group of weirdos. I’m sure bike brand product managers lurk...

7/15/2026 9:02am “”This stuff is complicated, which makes it hard to properly test and show and explain. People want to hear that such and such tire is the best ever bar none, but in reality the answer is always going to be: it depends. There’s just a lot of nuance“” Wrong. The best tire is a MINION DHF. Always. Long live Colin Bailey in all his wisdom and glory.

7/2/2026 11:18pm lol. Fair. I guess what I meant was that it would be a bodge job in the eyes of Shimano, who would almost certainly deny warranty to any customer who did that to their cranks.

7/2/2026 11:16pm I'd like to think within 5-10 years, most emtbs, AND trail, enduro and DH bikes will have gearboxes and no derailleur. Once it's a bit lighter and more efficient (arguably it's already close enough), it's the clear next step in innovation as geo has mostly settled lower longer and slacker enough (lol). It's only a matter of time

7/2/2026 11:16pm Blah blah blah heard this so many times, I pedal up to enjoy my ride down. Everyone's all about their idlers, heavy a$$ forks and tires etc that make so much more of a difference in the effort on the way up, while offering much less on the way back down than a gear box. Trying to focus on the innovation here. Everyone heard that it's impossible to pedal a bike with a gearbox (mostly from those who read it on the internet or tried it once...). Derailleurs are stupid and if it takes a moped to get rid of...
