4/13/2026 12:37pm Thank you. This was my thought, too. If you drive a car without a crumple zone into a brick wall at high speed, even though the same total force is being applied to the wall and to your body, your body and the wall will notice a difference compared to hitting the same wall at the same speed in a car with a crumple zone. In this analogy, the dual crown fork is the car w/o a crumple zone, transmitting all the force immediately to the headtube area, and the single crown fork is the car w/ a crumple zone...

4/12/2026 12:31am There was quite briefly. The 2.5 profile was a little too square and the 2.3 had a better profile but not enough volume.

4/11/2026 12:07am If you look at MTBs we have worked diligently to remove the Contraption-vibes from the bikes. There isn’t a clear roadmap for the future of these bikes but I would say the path will avoid Contraption-vibes

4/11/2026 12:05am I think it would be a really popular tire if someone made some content explaining why it absolutely slaps in anything that’s not mud…

4/10/2026 11:25am This makes a lot of sense actually, and maybe there is a 32 epic prototype or 3 floating around that seeded that rumor… Edit: Also, considering how long product development cycles are, I could see them being really deep into the new epic development and needing to push it out once this 32 thing picked up as much momentum as...

4/10/2026 11:16am What's funny is that it feels like we all memory holed the Epic world Cup when talking about specialized xc race bikes.

4/10/2026 11:16am New Epic 9 will be crazy light in S Works guise. No 32", no swat box. Very racy--Not sure about trims and rollout availability. Product cycle on the Epic 8 (spring 2024) does seem a little short. Perhaps they decided to release early based on 32" future XC bikes?

4/10/2026 8:15am I think semi slicks like minion ss and specialized slaughter are totally underrated. I was turned into these by ridemonkey DH forum guys and the combo of a fast rolling tread with big cornering lugs is addicting. way more grip than the appearance of the tire would suggest, but maybe that’s why it’s been so slow to catch on? People...

4/10/2026 8:11am I heard epic Evo is 29, epic is 32. That makes sense to me, but I know they are still slightly embarrassed about the 6FattyB misstep so I could see them being slower to adopt 32…

4/10/2026 8:08am I can confirm that Specialized will reveal a new generation of the Specialized Epic this month. I can also confirm that the new model definitively rolls on 29" wheels. From what I'm hearing, the folks at Specialized who executively get to make the decision on these kinds of things are not convinced that 32" wheels are universally beneficial for all XC racers and see them as more of a niche solution for very specific scenarios.

4/10/2026 12:05am Why would you make a bike that is literally actually slower than all of the other bikes that are coming out this year, when you could make a 32” bike? I’m curious though, have we seen a 32” Sid?

4/9/2026 7:04pm 90%+ of SRAM's (and Shimano's) sales are to OEMs, not Aftermarket/enthusiasts. So 90%+ of their direction in products is focused on OEM sales. Not guys on the VitalMTB forum, sadly.
