The Torrent isn't for bike nerds. It's for people that set it and forget it and spend their day lapping A-Line and Dirt Merchant. And for that purpose, the Torrent sounds like a perfect bike. Simple, reliable (hopefully) and affordable.

Maybe I just haven’t noticed before on the other 32” bike pictures, but damn those tires look so close together.

The anticipated updates to the Manitou Mezzer are finally being uncovered. https://road.cc/offroad/tech-news/manitous-updated-mezzer-gen-2-suspens… Edit- PB also has their photo album up. https://www.pinkbike.com/u/HayesPerformanceSystems/album/Manitou-Mezzer…

I mean fair but the rate of advancement isn't specific to offensive or defensive since models can be used either direction depending on the use case (or $$$). "Mythos, make my motor faster" is literally all it's gonna take for a 5th grader to hack their motor, and that's about the least concerning application I can think of.
A bit of an aside, but I think it is worth pointing out how fragile these software-based “locks” may turn out to be. Yes, the Avinox motor may be relatively easy to unlock today by using a VPN to New Zealand, but that loophole probably gets closed sooner rather than later. Longer term, I suspect the entire hardware package becomes crackable in the same way the tuner community has been cracking ECUs for decades. That likelihood only goes up as AI models get better at coding, reverse engineering, and understanding complex systems. At some point, people will be able to...

I made my last post when I was generally frustrated with life. Sorry about that. Most of you are probably still not going to agree with me, but I'll try again and then shut up. I think it's really, really important our community talks about whatever these two-wheeled machines with 800% assist and enormous torque/power actually are, and I don't want to stifle that occurring in this thread. I hope this thread gets a lot of traction and I learn something about why others feel so differently than me. Finally, apologies for waxing a bit philosophical. Honor, or whatever you...

Added a couple new notches in the idiot belt recently: My Maven brakes started getting air in the levers and fouling bleeds fairly quickly. First the front, then the rear, then the front again. WTF? Wandering bite point and general ranting ensues for a bit... Further investigation reveals that I had not tightened the hose compression nut to the lever anywhere near the proper 8nm torque. I got at lest a turn and a half on each nut with the crow foot torque wrench. Fresh bleed and haven't had an issue yet this season. Ran the loose hoses for at...

As long as it is the servowave slx lever, and not the linear one intended for XC 2 piston brakes, I don't see any reason to not use it with the maven caliper.

I can tell you with certainty that slx servo wave levers with a free stroke screw installed are the exact same as xt minus the color and textured lever blades.

Any reason to think a Shimano SLX lever with Maven Ultimate calipers (with the freestroke screw installed *on the levers) wouldn't function as well as an XT lever? Got a new bike and can't get these Codes off quickly enough

Some quality footage from the Squamish Enduro. A few national sleeves, some mechanical destruction, a few wrecks, and a huge huck.

The last win on a Float X2 was Andorra 2023 from Thibaut Daprela. Hopefully the next time the X2 gets on the top step it won't be him taking it there.

I stripped a lockring during the industry's COVID hangover and none of the bike stores near me had spares. "You too, huh?" they all asked me. Awful design. At least I now know how easy it is to do so I won't do it again.
