800 euro for the pair. No rotors. Also the new demo launch must be imminent, I presume these will be included in at least the top level build spec.

New Epic 9 will be crazy light in S Works guise. No 32", no swat box. Very racy--Not sure about trims and rollout availability. Product cycle on the Epic 8 (spring 2024) does seem a little short. Perhaps they decided to release early based on 32" future XC bikes?

I wonder if any of the brands felt a little bit icky joining the avinox bandwagon but felt like they had no other choice…

aaaaaand mountain biking shines brightly again. nskerb and veefour: you’ve just cut my screen time short for the day, so thanks in a way…does anyone here watch the YouTuber MTB Alan? He bailed on our hobby recently, hard to argue against any of his points. What assholes we are.

I went with Onyx hook flange, heavy, but amazing. I’m absolutely sold on them, genuinely feel faster and the silence is beautiful.

Same here, and I'm a fan, they feel amazing. I had mine laced w/ standard (j-bend) hubs because I was worried about...something? Next set I get I'll go w/ hook-flange hubs.

Yeah, Berd spokes seem ideal for backcountry repairs, due to the ease of carrying spares. Back in the day there was actually a company that made fiber spokes specifically for temporary use, to get you home if your steel spoke failed. I'm forgetting the exact name...Fiberfix, or something like that. At that time, they didn't consider the fiber tech to be sufficiently durable for permanent usage, hence the temporary repair angle.

Friend of mine has been beating the crap out of them ever since they were available. A lot tougher than I expected. The argument that it would be hard to source one on a trip is kind of silly. You can literally just put a couple in your pocket…

I mean a stick getting stuck in a wheel will also easily take out a metal spoke. Ive also gone on to do plenty of riding after breaking a spoke or 2

Respectfully, I disagree with your characterization of the Base brake's lever feel. I don't think there has ever been a brake in the history of the universe with a more on/off lever feel than the Maven Ultimate, and the thing I like most about the Base is that it keeps 90% of the power but makes the lever feel mushier in a good way. Lots more room to fine tune brake power using your finger on the Base, whereas the window to do that with the Ultimate feels like it occurs in roughly 0.04mm of lever movement.

My Specialized contact says no new Epic any time soon. And why would they. It's widely considered to be the benchmark of its class.

I did notice that The current Epic 8s are on sale, with some colors and sizes limited. Is this ahead of new colors and spec, or a new frame coming out later this year? Seems a little short for the Epic8 '24 redesign. But many people have felt that the current EpicEvo was not exactly on the mark.

Agreed with the first part but what's the beef with Transition?

I'm pretty sure he is just pre-embargo reviewing; I'm sure Dario at PB has one too. Like them or not, YouTubers have a decent audience, and getting your bike out there with them prob helps sales. Mo tends to be positive about everything, or find something to celebrate with every bike, which probably keeps bike companies happy and sending more...

Mo awesome hiding something from transition. Has a 34sl and the cable insertion is not the same as the current spur
