I've floated this idea a few times. The issue with Trump’s approach is that tariffs are likely to push CPI higher, not lower. To be fair, it's also possible that competitively priced and highly specialized manufacturing will pop up in the U.S. at enormous scale with armies of knowledgable, specialized non-immigrant workers in the next month to save us from these high costs. That's all we need. Well, that and in-country raw material extraction for materials that often don't exist in our borders in the quantities we need, like bauxite, rubber, lithium, cobalt, rare earth elements, etc. But if we can figure out those two aspects in the next month we'll be fine.

Very good point that I completely spaced on.. And, honestly I was able to understand why they did it.. The costs to attend Interbike were huge and the return for a larger company wasn't really there.. For smaller companies looking to get exposure, it could make some sense.. Even when I was at Marzocchi, we figured we could bring in our top 20 dealers for a weekend and spend less money than the week in Vegas..

The warranty is lifetime of the product for the original owner. The problem I have with this is how is the lifetime of the product defined? One could argue that it is the fatigue life of the material for normal use in which case it completely depends on what criteria Pivot design the bikes to. Personally, I find lifetime warranties for the original owner a bit of a marketing gimmick and would much rather have a fixed 5-10 year, transferable warranty so it's completely clear and the next owner also has some cover.

I think they've pigeonholed themselves into it at this point - they don't want to piss off current Pivot owners by changing standards more than anything.

I know this may sound crass, but the Rocky Mountain announcement, much like the GT announcement, doesn’t surprise me. Consolidation in the specialty cycling space has been anticipated for a long time. This consolidation doesn’t always mean brands acquiring other brands; it can also result from major players like Specialized or Trek dominating enough of the market to squeeze out mid-sized competitors. If a brand fails to offer something truly compelling—whether that’s performance, price, brand equity, reliability, or innovation—it’s going to struggle. Unfortunately, the nature of economies of scale makes this consolidation almost a self-fulfilling prophecy. To draw a parallel...
