1 day ago Sadly, Willamette hasn’t had access for bikes in well over 10 years. I miss riding there myself. Different experience than any other bike park for sure.

8/9/2026 1:29pm Besides being one of the last racers to compete in cross-country and downhill on the same weekend, he’s the last one to podium both events... Won the 1991 XC World Championship, then took silver in DH. Ciocco, Italy

8/9/2026 1:24pm On the Tomac subject, does anyone remember there were rumor and even pictures I think, of Tomac and a few engineers with one of the Honda Bikes at a bike park in Colorado doing testing. This was a year or two after Honda folded, apparently Honda loaned the bike to Tomac with the idea that Tomac might bring the bike to the masses. I’m pretty sure there was a Ridemonkey thread about it. (Yes, I’m old)

8/9/2026 1:24pm John Tomac is widely considered one of the greatest (American) mountain bike racers of all time. During the early years of international racing he won numerous DH and XC events. He went on to be the namesake and involved with Tomac bikes. The 204 DH frame in the photo was their flagship model. The bike company then ceased to exist (in the late 2000s?). I also believe he helped coach several (a lot?) of racers over the years including Aaron Gwin for a time. Finally, if you’re into motocross, he is the father of Eli Tomac. Basically, John Tomac was...

8/9/2026 1:24pm Young un's. 😀 He's one of the original legends. Think Gary Fisher, Bontrager et al. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/the-legacy-of-john-tomac-in-cycling-histo… I have no idea if Tomac is still involved in the Tomac brand but there's a lot of nostalgia around the name.

8/8/2026 11:21am Wow. Seeing a Tomac 205 with a belt drive gearbox wasn’t on my bingo card this year.

7/29/2026 1:24pm Time to stock up on DHF's, the end is near... 🥲 Will for sure be interested to check out this casing once it moves to DD and EXO +. I have ridden the DHF nearly exclusively since it came out.

7/25/2026 8:47am I actually know exactly what you mean. Ever since I switched to Kryptotals, I know in 99% of conditions I have full confidence in my tire to the point I've kind of forgotten about them as a factor. But the DHF/DHR2 combo of the past would side of you pushed them, juuuust a little, but you knew where they'd hook up just as they dug into the corner. It was the same in almost every condition so you could plan for it. Now I'm wet conditions if I slide, it comes as a huge surprise and I'm not ready for...

7/25/2026 2:43am I realize that every situation and rider is different. You learn how a tire reacts and you ride accordingly. I’ve used a DHF for over 20 years as a front tire. Maybe longer. Many other designs have come and gone, but the DHF has persevered. I’ve tried other offerings, specifically the Assegai… This might sound weird, but I thought it...

7/24/2026 7:59pm “Notably absent, the DHF won’t get the new casing. That tread won’t go away for less reinforced constructions (at least not right away). But they figure anyone looking for a DH-level tire would prefer an Assegai, HighRoller, or new Minion DHX up front instead.” Uh, not me…

7/24/2026 7:53pm I love that you think gearboxes will become ubiquitous on ebikes and will entirely replace mechanical derailleurs and electronic battery-powered derailleurs and electronic hard-wired derailleurs and autoshift derailleurs and internally geared hubs, instead of becoming one more option among a confusing sea of options and pricepoints, like everything else in the bike industry. If only it were that simple.
