I only ride DH, so rolling efficiency is of no concern to me

While you guys were working out I went and rode my bike down some steep ass shit. Tried for a brief second to only use rear brake. Instant acceleration. I can’t tell if you guys are taking the piss with this or not.
Crown Land, which is provincially managed public land and makes up 90% of the land in BC. This is the land that gets logged, mined, and recreated on. Logging on private land is much less common and tends to happen on Vancouver Island for some reason.

They say Dead Dog is 32 degrees. Definitely not the steepest trail but the key is it’s constant with no catch berms for very long distances. This makes it a good test for this conversation as it’s all about what gives you maximum braking power.
I started in magic Mary gravity. Horrendous to pedal and slow rolling. Switched to the new tacky gravity, much much faster. Great tire until a lug ripped off. Still the same old Schwalbe. Still have the MM up front.
It should be noted that in BC, rake and rides are completely legal to create. It is legal to clear dead fall and ride your bike where you want. The trail application form actually lists the trail building methods that you do not need an application for. Basically shovels in dirt. So in the end, fall line skidders are the...

My question was meant to be what brake would you use to get down a steep trail the slowest. Catch berms aren’t steep. They are catch berms. Tight switch backs are steep trails. I’m talking steep shit. Dead Dog. For sure you’d get spanked once in a while with just the front but if I had to go slow down...

I’d put it out to everyone to think about if they only had one brake to ride a steep trail, what brake would they want? I would choose my front brake to get down the slowest. I ride in an area with much steeper than average trails and I run my 38 at 94 psi and one spacer for 150...

If you told me I could pay a 1% penalty on suspension performance to have zero drivetrain noise, I'd shell that out in a minute. Every time I ride after freshly servicing suspension, greasing freehub, putting fresh tires on, aligning calipers, etc... the silence is amazing and the bike feels so smooth.

I think Shimano is missing the point- noise is the biggest issue by far. If my bike is loud, it's bad. I don't care if the suspension is actually working 1% better.

Holy shit. After doing O chain, upper and lower STFU, after market chainslap tape, cleaning and greasing everything, insulating hubs, whatever, I can tell you with certainty that hot waxing the chain is the single biggest change to noise on my bike. It is unreal. Zero metallic clanging, no more shopping cart, sideways landings are silent. It’s insane. Honestly and...

I think e-bikes are dumb but if enduro is supposed to be modelled after a regular ole bike ride, then enduro should be e-bikes these days. Add in that the climb isn’t timed and who cares if they are on an ebike. And then it can inevitably fail just like EDR.
