6/14/2026 10:24am I recently picked up an epic evo with codes on it, and was like holy fuck how did we ride these on DH/enduro bikes it can barely slow down this 28 lb XC bike on hiking trails. Came home and put some dominions on the next day. It’s honestly more shocking that a few people didn’t switch over mid season.

6/14/2026 10:22am That's also because Codes were god awful and the sram riders were so happy to get on an actual brake. I recently felt some older codes on some bikes I was dealing with and they were shockingly worse than I remembered. Say what you will about Shimano brakes, but they've been consistently good for a while.

6/4/2026 10:04pm It’s a vertical shock alignment similar to the old Diamondback Knucklebox design (mentioned above) or a Propain. Nothing to patent. It’s just a Utah County based company thinking it needs overdo marketing as they’re prone to do. Utah is the land of perceived aesthetics.

6/4/2026 7:25am The dirt up in the PNW is like silk compared to the crap we have down here, which is like 60 grit sandpaper. (I grew up near Seattle, and work in a construction field that deals with boring/excavating.) That, coupled with people wanting to build and ride steep PNW-like trails down here, is a recipe for tire abuse.

6/1/2026 8:58pm Me: Can we stop and get a 6-bar suspension from Yeti? Mom: We've got 6-bar suspension at home: For older Amflows, but I suppose the new ones might be supported as well: https://www.mklinkage.net/

5/27/2026 8:35pm I’ve got ~100mi and ~20k ft of vert on the new Tacky Chan Trail Pro Radial 2.5 Softs now, and they’re my new favorite tire. Finding the right pressure took some work, but at 33/30 they hit the right balance of support and grip. They just straight hook up in the loose stuff, are really predictable on turn-in, and roll freakishly fast. As a “I hate Albert, all my homies hate Albert” guy, I definitely did not expect this, but here we are.

5/25/2026 6:59pm A higher stack is going to be better than a lower stack, everything else being equal, but it’s not a full solution. With a higher stack, it’s harder to get your weight forward and actually weight the front wheel on techy climbs and into turns. It’s more comfortable because you’re not forced either into a deep squat or a pike plank position as much. But it’s not going to change the basic fact that a standing rider will always have the overwhelming majority of their weight supported via their feet and thus distributed between the two contact patches according to...

5/24/2026 8:46am @TEAMROBOT - I remember testing showing CX file treads were slower in almost every application, but still people buy and ride them because they look fast. Btw, while I’m here, I feel like a massive driver of mountain bikers yelling at clouds about product happens when product support doesn’t match the promise. Unhelpful warranties on stuff sold with massive margins, and a consistently terrible pattern of companies refusing to acknowledge issues until suddenly a new model pops up. It makes journalism more important, I get so irate seeing reviewers acknowledge issues in old product they simply refused to when it...

5/24/2026 8:45am I’ve been mountain biking since I was a teenager in the 90s and the marketing material has never been as sober as it is right now and the products have literally never been higher quality. Thirty years ago you’d drop a huge stack of cash on 1.9” tires made out of QC-rejected pencil erasers and hay, they’d be hard as coffin nails and look leprous after three rides (several flats per ride), and the marketing material would be all like “God himself couldn’t make rubber stickier; this rubber is so sticky it’s gray; you can ride on the damn wall”...

5/15/2026 9:28am Interesting about the gripping with the knees thing - having beaten the concept of “bike body separation” into my mind for the last decade, this goes against pretty much everything I’ve been working towards. Caveat: I’ve never ridden moto in my life, nor really watched a real moto race while focusing on rider position. On a mtb gripping with your...

5/15/2026 9:22am I can comment on these setups. I have posted on vital MTB a little before and felt there was a closed mindedness to this kind of a-typical stuff... That seems to be changing in MTB circles. I am not here to change any minds. I have my own opinions, coming from the moto side of things and the trends in MTB just do not feel right in terms of front wheel grip and rider / body position. I post regularly on VitalMX and have been a motocross racer for most of my life at the amateur / expert level. June...
