9 hours ago Just do a Tallboy 6 and run forekaster F/R. I’ll be trying that combo this weekend.

7/30/2026 12:55pm I can compare the rekon, magnotal, and trinotal, but not the dubnotal as it's a bit too light for me Just as a heads up, while the trinotal looks reminiscent of the forekaster, it has much shorter knobs. In terms of overall grip/rolling resistance, its forekaster > magnotal > rekon > trinotal. I really like the center tread on the magnotal, but the sideknobs don't quite reach forekaster levels of grip

21 hours ago Was talking to a dealer last weekend after I did a test ride and he said there is a new Shimano motor coming. We agreed it was about time but I neglected to ask when and what companies. Sorry. 🤦♂️

7/30/2026 12:47pm Avinox is far from a monopoly. Looking just at MGUs, I wouldn't underestimate players like Gobao. And, more broadly speaking, I wouldn't count out TQ or Bosch just yet. But SRAM and Shimano have had a duopoly in the drivetrain market for ages, so maybe it's about time some others get some market share too. While I like both companies, I'm certainly not looking at the current landscape and saying "I hope this doesn't mean I'll be able to choose something other than SRAM or Shimano in the future."

7/29/2026 2:03am Not sure how far you have to go back but I have talked about it. I’ve just put in a claim for my 4th M1 motor… to see if I can get one of the quieter ones. 😅 M2s is quiet as is Bosch G5… we’ve seen more Bosch warranties through our shop than Avinox in this last year.

7/27/2026 2:16pm So far all the criticism of Avinox in this thread has been from people that haven’t spent any time on bikes equipped with it. I’ve drafted numerous responses as someone who owns, rides and sells Avinox. But its just not worth it, the cognitive dissonance in here is ridiculous. Some people are just committed to hating it. We have just sold our last Fazua (thankfully) and sell a good of Bosch (it is still our shop preference) too. They are doing things completely legitimately. But they’d be doing a lot better if they didn’t have such a crazy high buy...

7/25/2026 11:37pm just saw this in mojo suspension story. Looks like some kind of dual spring setup for fine tuning/recreating individual dual rate spring curve. I think Dave Garland did something like this for the boxxer quite some years ago.

7/25/2026 12:31am Thank you for the kind words! Glad to hear you enjoyed the podcast and the history bit in particular. Yes, I do think the DJI and Gobao motor gearbox units are going to shake things up, but the gallows humor joke I was making is that no technology change is ever truly complete in the bike world, where there are still new bikes being sold with straight 1 1/8" steerer tubes, friction shifters, 26" wheels, and freewheels. Which is why I predict there will always be derailleurs even on ebikes, either because the ecvt is too expensive for certain price...

7/22/2026 12:46pm Just took at Teewing Turbo Force for a ride. Its Teewing's 150/160mm bike with the Avinox motor. Very nice bike for $6kMSRP. Motor is so quiet and massively tunable. Under 50 pounds. 800watt battery. One of my local shops is now a dealer. For that price it becomes something to consider for sure.

7/19/2026 2:42am Also had issues with my 90 setup. Turned out to be not enough cable tension, but the weird part is it only affected one cog in the middle of the cassette. Since fixing that it’s been fantastic. Can’t remember if it was said earlier, but it sure feels like SRAM made the mechanical stuff harder to setup as a way to steer people toward AXS.

7/15/2026 5:27pm This is what I'm planning on doing. My issue with Eagle 90 is that, no matter what I do, it seems like it just can't be setup perfectly. The lack of limit screws and b-adjust make it a pain to try and get it totally dialed in. When it works, it works OK, but when it doesn't, the process of fixing it just doesn't seem to fix it entirely. There is always something out of alignment or slightly off. I've setup or installed many other drivetrains including SRAM 12 speed without this being an issue, but neither me nor bike...

7/15/2026 5:27pm The Madrone Jab with whatever shifter you want solves that issue. I've been on all the latest drivetrains from SRAM and Shimano, and the Jab blows them all out of the water in pretty much every aspect - price being the only outlier there.

7/14/2026 10:52pm Honestly, the lack of "fudgeability" by using the limits + b tension screws to deal with any cable/housing related issues puts a hell of a lot of pressure on the tension adjuster on the sram 90 shifter and its just... not up to the task. I think I'd be singing a different tune if it felt as nice to deal with (and worked as well) as the XO and XX1 stuff did in the previous generation. I recently put an XO DH shifter on a madrone DH jab and my god its so nice, and in my opinion what the...

7/14/2026 3:25pm Recovered my stolen 1-up rack because of one. Dude had his van stolen with his bikes in it. His bikes had AirTags (in the steerer tube? forgot) and he was able to get his van, bikes, my rack + two other stolen 1-Ups and a van full of stolen power tools. The tools weren't his, but the cops said they...

7/13/2026 11:33pm Just a lot of money for a heavier and noisier experience, with the only benefit being durability? (Which is then offset by the cost and weight regardless?) I'm glad the development is continuing but wireless seems like one of those things for high end bikes running the high end versions. As of now I don't think people really want deore di2 or S1000/eagleAXS, upgrade kit or no. I mean as long as it stops eating the mid range market of MTBs. Models probably shouldn't jump from CUES 11 to GX AXS in terms of options (and price).

7/13/2026 11:32pm The price and weight are completely ridiculous when you consider how cheap and well all the cable stuff is these days. Who is this even for?
