5/22/2026 10:21am Uh, that's most bike buyers. The number of people that I've sold bikes to who don't care/know what the knobs do is... the majority. We do our best to educate, but I could see their eyes glaze over in the first 10 seconds. The number of customers who care about how suspension works is less than 5% in my experience.

5/22/2026 10:18am This doesn't match my experiences. I tried both air and coil shocks on my Murmur and preferred the coil by a very wide margin. It felt absolutely horrible on air for me. I had 0 issues with bottoming out on rocky sections and pretty much the only time I got close was on drops to flat. Even then it wasn't harsh at any point. I ride mostly natural trails and tried it a few times at bike parks, never had this issue there either. OTOH the air shock made it track worse and was a lot harsher. I much preferred...

5/21/2026 5:48pm I’m sure this access thing is going to be different in whatever area we are talking about. Different land managers, and perspectives. Here in Southern Oregon there are E bikes everywhere. Hikers and other groups have complained about them, but the forest service and the city of Ashland don’t have the manpower or the resources to enforce any of it. Basically like trying to stop a tsunami. The amount of rogue trails that have sprung up has went nuclear. The unexpected benefit is that everybody is spread out and it has seemingly decreased conflicts. This power argument is just a...

22 hours ago I bought a tuned Ohlins coil when I bought my Starling. It was fantastic. I must have bottomed it at some point because of some reckless drops/jumps, but I couldn't tell. Might be worth contacting them. I'm always on the verge of buying another.

5/21/2026 5:18pm The Murmur has a rising rate (anti-progressive) and riders much better than any of us ride it with this coil shock, which to my knowlege has no HBO nor a progressive coil. The Yeti Switch Infiinty bikes all had/have progression less than 20% and they ride amazing. I know Mr. Cascade thinks anything with less than WC level progression is unridable, but I actually like less progression on a short travel bike. Keep it firm so you have something to push against and preserve geometry.

5/21/2026 5:17pm Probably refers to the fact that Jay, the owner, now lives in Taiwan and does the QC on site. Keith, the designer/engineer is from Scotland and rest of the crew is in the USA. If that makes it a Taiwanese company so be it... The fact that whole brand is basically run by 4 people is just amazing, is FW still run by just Neko and his brother or are there others (not counting the team)?

5/21/2026 12:44pm One of my buddies who rides for Banshee says there are a bunch of new frames coming out this year. Didn't have any details around what's being updated/changed or what's new, but they're coming.

5/19/2026 12:01am I never bothered to do timed testing, but the full 29er always felt more efficient climbing both fire roads or technical trails. Whether it actually was, or I used less energy or whatever…

5/17/2026 11:46pm I was thinking part of it might be getting a longer stroke shock, lower leverage rate, and less progression for the Tallboy genre of bike. But it doesn't look like that's going to be the case. As to the 5010, I've got the MX version and for anything less than full-blown enduro bike territory, it's the most fun bike I've ever owned. I'm not trying maximize mileage or overall speed. If you're riding a bike for fun (and you're not in the big mountains), I'll never understand why more people didn't choose MX trail bikes. Now they are disappearing. Maybe...

5/15/2026 5:36pm Take it easy buddy. I’m not trying to derail the entire conversation but also think it’s allowed to have an aside now and again. There’s plenty of off topic quips that go on in this thread.

5/14/2026 10:41am To me Enduro is the most interesting and all skills encompassing form of mtb racing. It's just that bike racing (other than Tour de France, which I love watching) as a whole is difficult to package and translate to the TV screen for the masses to enjoy.

5/12/2026 2:24pm There is a little predicament in the Persian Gulf that that means the hunger for recycled plastic has skyrocketed. Ironically, the moron-in-chief is going to make electric cars, recycling and efficiency a lot more economically attractive in the land of freedumb.

5/12/2026 2:14pm Interesting to note that with Orbea's AGM, they work with "one person, one vote". So you don't end up with a very small number of people controlling everything if they have more personal shares.

5/10/2026 3:01pm Trust me, Porsche isn't in financial trouble. Like, not even remotely. They just strategically like to appear as if they are, for political- and lobbying reasons. Only slightly related rant: The automotive industry in Germany on a wider scale is once again trying to apply political pressure in order to achieve massive tax cuts, subsidies and erode labour protection laws. It's the same old story; They're feigning financial trouble and mass job insecurity as a bargaining tool for political leverage. And yes, our automotive sector is so large and influential that they can sort-of hold the entire country hostage until...
