Jeff, Location is literally the only thing that matters for small-scale bike shops these days. To really thrive, many, many, things out of the control of a small business owner need to exist. To thrive, once it took building community in your store with group rides, racing, etc. Car-centric culture and social media driven concepts like strava have decimated the...

Jeff, Yes, I know multiple shops that opened new accounts with new brands to try to get themselves some Avinox stock while the hype was boiling… Say someone wanted to open up a Pivot account(they had a couple Avinox bikes that were briefly in stock a month or so ago)…. that intial buy-in is a lot of cash. So say...

Anecdotally, I have noticed multiple shops this summer that are down on stock of things like helmets, stems, pedals, gloves etc. because they frantically tied up their free cash pre-ordering Avinox equipped bikes... that still aren’t on the floor… in that brief period before all the Eeb-talk went Gobao and E-cvt shaped. This is all pretty much exactly what Richard...

Literally every bike racer and coach I know use TrainingPeaks…. It’s pretty much the only SAAS option for professional coaches to interface with their clients.
The USAC XC “singlespeed” national championships were all just won on axs-with-the-batteries-removed last week. I announce a bunch of xc races on the east coast…it’s been a few years that the top single speed racer has been on anything except a full-suspension bike with an unplugged battery. An interesting note about most of the blinglespeed slope-bike tensioners… they don’t work...

Well, When Conroy’s dad helped him buy Yeti 20+ years ago, Yeti sorta became Yeti again… The late Scott/early Volant years were the only time I can recall Yeti not being as invested in bike racing as they were in Agoura Hills or Durango, but the entire mtb racing world collapsed in on itself at the turn of the millennium...

Quick correction- Hammerschimdt had an overdrive, opposite of the hub thing. Pedaling in low, it was just a 22 or 24 tooth chainring. Going up gave you a 1.6 overdrive, and that's when you felt the gears meshing. Climbing gears were just as efficient as a single ring, except for the extra weight.

They are also talking about Classified planetary gear hubs… a soon to be dead like Hammercshmidt technology. An external deraileur based drivetrain will always be lighter and more efficient than the losses you get in planetary gears. From a bicycle dynamics perspective, adding a massive amount of unsprung mass to your rear wheel is horrible. I had a Classified hub...

The last 2 pages have discussed nothing newer than Hammerschmidt. Please take it to another thread.

I have a solid half dozen pair of Nike road and xc shoes squirreled away from the 1998-2005ish period. The Cairns mtb shoe was half designed for Nico Vouilloz and half designed for the ringleader of the largest sporting fraud case ever prosecuted by the US department of Justice. They adress a large format spd mighty dang well and had...

Funn is fully vertically integrated(like Fratelli/aka Spank), they even own the brothel they entertain product managers at! Being an actual manufacturer gives a brand like Funn a lot more margin to work with.

What they should do instead of another trophy is MONEY, give them MONEY!!! Riders and teams

Yeah but bike racing is the best sport and the only one that bike racers compete in. Unlike most sports, bicycle racing is a Life Sport. There’s formal competition from 7 expert in bmx into the 80+ field in pretty much every discipline of bike racing. Unlike most sports it’s possible to continue riding bikes post-racing, by yourself in whatever...

You want to feel sick to your stomach? USAC asks xc/cx/road juniors to give them access to their Training Peaks accounts so that some ai-obsessed vulture of a coach can identify riders for development programs based on training metrics.. because there are so few opportunities for young athletes to compete in the United States. “Performance Oriented” national governing body philosophy...

Ugh, wbd is smoking crack again. Team overalls are pretty ancient. Sunn-Chippie/Sunn-UNN used to battle Volvo Cannondale for the team trophy during the Clinton administration. It was a lot more meaningful then too, because it combined all the disciplines…
