With the global bicycle market coalescing around “mobility solutions” as the future profit center the American response that you are “afraid to ride to work” is just about all the economic insight needed to understand why this thread will soon be 150 pages long. The number of Americans I know who have held pro dh licenses but are hesitant riding...

Re: recent geopolitical happenings With the Straight of Hormuz and Red Sea both being closed to tanker traffic, we will be seeing some very large increases in oil prices, at least in the short term. In my 30+ years tracking bicycle retail trends, we usually see an uptick in bicycle sales when the price of gasoline becomes painful for commuters...

It’s so excellent to see for a 2nd year in a row that USAC’s national events staff isn’t involved with Enduro National Championships. Mr Harper has done a good job reducing USAC’s involvement with Gravity national championships… now we need to kick the USAC goons out of the event director and site selection roles for Endurance MTB nationals and return...

Honestly could not think of much worse in terms of bike prep than having to charge batteries for my suspension and derailleur on my DH bike 😢

Mickey this was awesome, and true IMO; And I realize I'm replying to a week old post and have not read the next page but your post inspired me. The amount of people who think all mechanical objects are made by magic wizards has always astounded me. A counter point would be (and I admit I am 1 whole page and 1 whole week behind on the forum) that what you've described as basic skills could really be extended to most professional tasks. I broke out my multimeter to check out what was broken on my heat pump for my...

“Onshoring” and “No new investments” are kinda mutually exclusive, aren’t they? I work with a few people who have worked for Rapha in the last 7 years. That brand is super duper marketing heavy, in terms of where the money goes. It’s painful to think how the marketing investments over the last 7 years could have more than paid for...

Fortune: Walton Owned RZC PE firm pauses all new investments Rapha just managed to squeek out their barf-inducing USAC kit and Allied managed to launch their new imported flimsy flyer before the Home Office from the Home Office said “no mas” to Steu and Thom’s vanity projects… Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out boys!

Analog riders are the new kooky single speeders. If you think motors make riding too easy then please don’t do the math for how much mechanical advantage gears give you. There isn’t a lot of juice to squeeze from frames since we’re mainly hitting human rights issues on how good a frame can be while still being affordable. We’re still probably not paying the true price for bike when you factor in environmental and human effects of the manufacturing process. That’s where I see the biggest need for innovation. It’s amazing to me though that you unironically list electronic shifting...

I'm honestly kind of bummed about all this e-bike tech and innovation and the lack thereof with analog bikes. E-bike tech and GLP-1 tech both seem to be getting popular at the same time, and I wonder why...

If you are Alabama-far south, Besides Gravity Carolina’s races, don’t sleep on Bump N Grind outside of Birmingham the 2nd weekend of June. High quality promoters(this is year 32 of the XC race!) decent-enough field depth in intro classes.

I think I know the races you’re talking about… have you tried a Gravity Carolina’s race? Newer promoter out of Charlotte, I’ve done a couple and thought he did a great job. They’re racing at Rattlesnake this weekend, then Kanuga in a couple weeks.

I'm curious about enduro racing, but being in the deep southeast the only organization consistently putting on races is the corniest fucking thing around. I kinda want nothing to do with them.

Bicycles only appear to be luxury toys because of the way high end bikes are marketed. All bicycles are incredibly simple to work on(hence why bike mechanics get paid sub-living wages) and essentially last forever with the most basic maintenance(hence why the bike industry has shifted so heavily to rapid “obsolescence” in a effort to show growth on year over...

Back in the Grundig/NORBA days, Mt Snow was a racer favorite. Of course back then the track went from the summit. Plenty of vertical for a WC if they ran that lift still. If I remember right, some rare bird nests at the summit for a couple weeks in the summer? And it’s national forest land, so they had to stop running that lift in the summer. Such a bummer, because Mt Snow has some great terrain from the top. The bike park there has really gone to shit over the years.

Whoop recently laid of Jeremy Powers and a few of the other people who secured the loot to pay for the title sponsorship. (Whoop is tech startup out of Boston… they aren’t in the bussiness of making money yet…?).
