smelly Added a reply to 2026 MTB Tech Rumors and Innovation - Longer and Slacker
1 day ago Wow that’s a weird brake/shifter angle. Cool looking bike, though it’s not clear to me why anyone needs a bike to make trails even easier than they already are in this era of shitty flow trails.

4/29/2026 7:26am Gonna be a dick and point out that if you run smaller than a 32t, you don’t need a power meter, you need a gym. Edit: it’s not my opinion, just an uncomfortable matter of fact for why they don’t make power meters for 30t rings. I’m sure there are exceptions, like people riding fully loaded 87lb touring bikes who...

4/26/2026 4:32am I was an early adopter of 29. Will not be adopting 32, except maybe a gravel bike. Took about 15 years for geometry to get properly sorted on 29. It’ll go a bit faster this time, so the real question, if these take off, is what’s going to happen in 2035-2040? Will 26 return or are we staring down 36?

4/24/2026 7:12pm Dang then those woods sections are going to be slow and tricky. I like it. I was just guessing based on the video being 6 minutes and half of it being no riding and the riders pace being slow. Big fan of the lower speed technical tracks.

4/24/2026 4:20pm Looks cool - raw, old school, homegrown feel to it. those woods sections will turn into sniper rock gardens and clever taping will make for tricky corners. Suspect this will be a sub 2 minute course though, and some of those jumps may need to be embigened. But it’s just nice seeing something new.

4/15/2026 4:51am Why not get a Madrone instead of a bunch derailleurs that require a lot of maintainance and not even working that well spending the same if not more for something much weaker, soft

smelly Added a reply to Tire inserts - do you run them?
4/5/2026 5:08am Running rear tubolight inserts on all bikes. But I mostly ride a hardtail and short travel bike with exo tires. Only the eeb has DD/dh tires How you guys are toting around heavy casing tires on trail rides is beyond me. I’d rather go to the gym, or play monopoly, or have a colonoscopy. Lordy heavy tires suck to ride...

3/26/2026 7:40am A lot of this talk sounds like the old adage that the difference between theory and reality is that in theory there’s no difference between theory and reality. But in reality there is. Bring ‘em on. I don’t see myself buying one, the LAST thing my local trails need is a way to make them easier. But who cares if...

3/23/2026 4:06pm You wouldn’t. Observers would have to tell you what happened. The red flags pertain to events during and immediately after the trauma, so it would be based on eyewitness report.

3/23/2026 5:59am There are a lot of resources around managing concussion, but the most important thing that is consistently not explained or managed is that emotional disturbances are normal, and can be severe. Depression, anxiety, disorientation, and at the extreme, suicide, are very common symptoms of head injuries. It’s really important for people around the concussed person to be aware of this, and for a plan to be in place to help.

3/23/2026 5:11am @Big Dos they should. Gradual return to play has been the standard for at least 15 years now (I learned about it back then in med school, don’t know when it came out). If I’m being blunt, if your GP isn’t familiar with it, it may be time for a new one. This is pretty basic primary care stuff these...

3/22/2026 8:12pm Notably, severity of the inciting event often doesn’t correlate with severity of concussion. I’ve seen severe concussions from seemingly innocuous events (low speed fall), and people knocked unconscious who have minimal/no residual symptoms. 🤷 Personal experience though, I’d add the “seeing stars/hearing knocked out” type to your list. Take a hit and get sparkles in your vision and the sound...

3/22/2026 8:00pm Primary care doc here. There’s 4 symptom domains that concussions effect - the physical (headaches, light/sound sensitivity, balance and disequilibrium), cognitive (word finding difficulty, brain fog), emotional (frustration, depression, emotional lability, anger), and sleep (hypersomnolence or insomnia). Someone above suggests you obtain baseline testing. And that’s all well and good, though my experience as a doctor who has treated A...

3/12/2026 6:19pm Flame me if you’d like, but 32” wheels is one of the few things that has me excited for a new bike. There are so many amazing full suspension bikes now ,and geometry, for whatever discipline, have pretty much leveled out. As someone that rides my Singlespeed as much or more than my FS, I’m excited to build up a rigid Singlespeed 32er. My local trails are fairly mellow and as I get older I appreciate momentum and keeping a higher average pace over “shredding the gnar!”
