But, but, but....how are all of the people working at or selling those brands supposed to pontificate about sexism in the industry and shame everyone else for selling "men's" bikes that could never deign to meet the hugely different needs of a woman? LOL After all of those years of bro-science (cloaked as pro-science) marketing pitches about male vs. female proportions, it was fun to see how after Specialized bought Retul and logged data from 1000s of bike fit measurements, they were forced to admit that the physical measurement overlap was so huge that only unisex bikes really made sense...

Weight weenieism is alive and well in my group of riding buddies. We bought up all the remaining mechanical XX1 Eagle gear as T-type was taking over. All on Blurs that are under 22lbs. One with a sub 16lb Mondraker Podium. I'm sure this varies by local and riding style, but I think the move by SRAM and Shimano to heavy electronic parts has been a boost to the boutique component market, like Madrone, Garbaruk, Darimo, etc.

I agree with your assertion, but there is something important to add too. Economics drives culture, and vice versa. There is a not insignificant portion of the population in the US that can't take risks, both physical and economic. A bad accident could put a family in generational medical debt, and you can't take half a year off to go race bikes, because then you won't have health insurance. This leads to a situation where young people that don't have significant financial backing from their parents cannot participate in bike racing. IIRC the Mallen brothers are an exception to this...
