Hard to imagine that setup getting small enough to be practical. As it is, there would be pretty significant constraints on suspension design to work around that. Probably partly due to less active clutch on the dual chain setups. The lower chain line grows and shrinks a lot during suspension travel on high-pivot, single-chain setups, but the lower chain line on dual chain systems shouldn't change much, if at all under sus travel.
About an eCVT, or about a belt CVT? Gates makes belts, and I think there was a patent reveal a while back for a belt CVT for pedal bikes. eCVTs require 2-power sources to operate - either 2 motors or an ICE paired with a motor in the case of hybrid vehicles. The CVTs in my Subaru and Toyota are paired with a conventional automatic transmission - they just smooth out the transition between gears when you aren't being aggressive. Ok, so maybe not entirely, but I think a healthy chunk of the ebike market will go that way. I don't own one yet, so really just gaging by the people I see riding ebs around here. Most can't handle maintenance of any kind, so I suspect this will be their preferred option. Probably not for low-power SL bikes though.
