6/16/2026 11:46pm I have a Commencal Clash I can set up super-mini-mullet (26” front, 24” rear). On the right trails it is super duper fun.

6/16/2026 12:43pm Thanks for your excellent input in the other thread. I'll link below for anyone interested. Hoping to toss these on today and get a feel for them. I have a lot of nerve issues in my hands and it kills a lot of riding for me, basically by the time I get into a flow on any trail, I spend the rest of the time managing hand pain until I have to stop. I rarely have issues with my hands sliding outwards and losing grip, it's usually under constant / heavy braking they slip forward, but I'm hoping these will...

6/15/2026 4:23pm With regards to "cant believe we used to use "X" brakes!" Remember wheels were probably 26" or 650b, which have a better mechanical advantage compared with the current 29" wheels. The larger rotors were a year or two behind the bigger wheels iirc

6/15/2026 4:18pm Do you have a way of articulating how to use these? I know that seems like a silly question, but I have major hand issues and I have a pair sitting here. The main reason I haven't put them on yet is because I'm not really sure what the actual way to use them looks like. I was going to experiment later this week. Are you pressing the edge of your hand against the bar end actively or is it more of a loosen your grip, let your hand float, and use the bar end for security?

6/15/2026 4:15pm Downtime mentioned how widespread the breeden bar ends are becoming, with people like Bruni, Pierron and many many others using them. Owning a pair, having recovered from 2 broken hands (left then right) in 3 years, I've found they definitely live up to the hype and really helped with arm pump and security of my weak hands on the bars. The bar ends are a much more interesting innovation than I originally expected, because they significantly change the biomechanics of the upper-body while riding. Stopped by the Orbea pits this weekend and they've cut grips down (pretty sure it was...

6/14/2026 10:41pm A couple very subtle and easy tweaks to that helmet (e.g., visor shape, outer pad fabric) and a better paint job could make it look so much better. All of that would’ve essentially been free during development. How do you miss the aesthetic mark that bad?!

6/14/2026 10:33pm The conventional wisdom about Shimano used to be that they moved slowly with product development but (with a few exceptions) released stuff that just worked. But the dual-spring clutchless derailleurs don't seem like they fall into that category of "just works." (Caveat: I have not ridden one myself. I'm basing this on other people's reviews.) Will be very interesting to see if Shimano sticks to their guns on this design, or if they backtrack in a year or two.

6/14/2026 10:27pm As a mostly analogue rider who also has an ebike, I was surprised at how rude, even nasty, a lot of guys on regular bikes are—even when you're as polite as possible trying to pass them on an ebike. Before I had an ebike, my buddies and I would kind of snicker at ebikers after they passed, but never to their face. I figured I'd see some of this once I got one, but I was surprised at how rude some "analogue" riders are for no reason, and how often it happens. It's pretty much an every-other-ride occurrence, which is...

6/14/2026 10:25pm That's also because Codes were god awful and the sram riders were so happy to get on an actual brake. I recently felt some older codes on some bikes I was dealing with and they were shockingly worse than I remembered. Say what you will about Shimano brakes, but they've been consistently good for a while.

6/11/2026 11:46pm A properly supported Angel on a winning bike is someone who has been able cross the line in the green in the past. Angels had some rough luck over the years with weird team dynamics, teams folding, and injury. I'd love to see 2-3 seasons of that guy healthy and supported.

6/5/2026 1:47pm Sure, there are bikes that it is well implemented on and the geometry is preserved between the two settings - The current Ibis Ripley/Ripmo and G3 Kona Process 134/153 and Process X are all bikes that do it well.

6/5/2026 8:05am I don’t really have any experience with how well the wheel size flip chips have worked. Are there any bikes that have done it well?

6/5/2026 8:04am I tend to fine myself on the other end flip chip theory. I tend to be more anti flip chip as it always tends to make thing more complicated and doesn't really add to the ride feel of the bike. There's also something to be said with a bike manufacture creating a bike with one specific geo and running it like that. Although, I am currently on a Forbidden Dreadnought V2 with drop out adjustments. I think this is one of useful adjustments as it makes a noticeable change without complications or compromises. Along with that I think that the...
