Wow. Have been kind of in-awe of how the Athertons evolved from top-level WC Elites to bike park / bike company owners, the whole unique development / production of their bikes, etc. Such a shame to see this news for them and their company. I was just watching a Rach interview recently, how she was talking about how the bike company had managed to bring so many people to their hub. This has got to be devastating for them all.

I think the depression of the current market may work to Specializes advantage. Specifically in the marketing side of things. Right now a lot of hard core people look at enduro bikes and shrug their shoulders because 140-150mm travel frames can be customized to take such a beating. But everyone outside of this hardcore label with money will eat up Specialized marketing. That their Enduro bike will be 10 years in the making. They will advertise this thing as the second coming of Jesus for the enduro genre. It will be a new beast, unlike the old generation of enduro...

I actually had the thought the other day while on a ride, has anyone tried to incorporate bash protection and weights? Seems to me like all these racers that are adding weight really low on the bike could come up with something that serves both needs. Weight on literally the lowest point of the bike but also drivetrain protection.

I know we are mostly gravity oriented here, but the Cannondale Factory (XC) team is shutting down and Maxime Marotte announced that Origine Racing Division will be without Origine come 2027. Origine said that they will continue as a frame sponsor some place else. I have no real dog or insight on this whole thing, I just wanted to personally say I absolutely loathe the phrase "No friends on a powder day." Ski with your friends no matter what the conditions are and you'll have more fun. I think it's also pretty telling that the elite racers I've met have all been friendly if not friends with each other.

As a professional mechanic I'm surprised at how bad the quality control is in general in mtb. From bad alignment, poor parts spec, lack of proper covers on bearings to shit geo, etc. When clients ask what bikes I'd recommend I'm left scratching my head lol. It feels like the marketing guys decide most stuff, the product managers don't ever ride and/or the engineers are terrible.
