First post/link was blocked? US Open weekend feels like the right time for a 30-year throwback to the classic NORBA National era. I’ve been slowly digitizing and archiving all our old 90s VHS tapes so this history doesn't get lost. Here’s the 1996 Deer Valley National broadcast on ESPN. My better half, Leigh Donovan, took the double win in Elite Women’s DH and Dual Slalom that weekend! It was an awesome event, though as the team wrench back then, I vividly remember we went through some wheels and the dust was pretty savage on fork seals.

It’s weird - sram can release an ecosystem of groups with proprietary cassettes, derailleurs, chains, rings, that have stratospheric prices and persistent issues (speed, shift calibration limitations, QC issues, cassettes that need to be installed multiple times to settle, battery pins corroding etc etc), plus compromises they try and correct release to release. Maybe that’s ok, it’s up to the rider. At the same time, Shimano releases a new di2 ecosystem that uses their existing(and awesome) cassettes, chains, rings, has the industry leading shifter for ergonomics. A sealed battery compartment, but its perceived to be noisy on some bikes, but...

edit - 23 elite men riders with a 2:51 between q1 and q2 (yes some q2 results may be redundant to q1 results). it's crazy how a track so rough, with so many opportunities for mistakes can still be so close. and heck yeah for pinky and anna! 4 #USDH men and 2 women (melton on it!) through Q1 and luca w/ fastest time of day in q2.

Personally I find Dakotah a heck of a lot easier to relate to than someone like Jackson. Just a hard working dude from a similar part of the same country as me, also with questionable hair styles, that has overcome some adversity and doesn't mind getting his hands dirty at home. Nothing against Jackson, but his story is so far out of my realm that its just... not very interesting.

His contributions to the B-Practice podcast are probably a big reason that Vital favors him (Just like people here love Jesse M. because he actually posts in the forum periodically). It makes them feel like they're "one of your own." Shocking... do good PR things that expand your audience and let people get to know you... and you increase your fan base and marketability. I think people really appreciate his perspective, combined with Tanner and Jason, on the races and racing in general. It's one of the more interesting podcasts to me. SRAM NX Eagle cranks were dipped in a sodium hydroxide solution with hot water for about two minutes, followed by extensive machine sanding and hand polishing, and finished with a final coat of wax. Use caution when working with sodium hydroxide, as it produces heavy bubbling and hazardous fumes.
