TheKaiser Added a comment about press release Öhlins Introduces New Downhill Crown for DH38
6/9/2026 3:20pm Yeah, I'd wondered if there was a connection between Loic using the split (presumably more flexy) crown, and Loic having arm/nerve problems and now needing to take 3mos off from competition. To put it more clearly, maybe he's been experimenting with more compliant setups in an attempt to give his arms a break.

19 hours ago Grease? Or some sort of brake pad mounting compound like they sell for cars? The former really does sound like a terrible idea. The latter, I've always kind of wondered about if it could have any value for bikes. Car pads seem to be a lot more tolerant of contaminates than bikes though. I had a brake line on my...

6/6/2026 8:35pm It's wild that my 2018 Lyrik RC2 has been on 6 different bikes and every travel config between 150-180. Still going strong 8 years later with no creaks in the CSU. Best fork of all time. (yes it's red)

6/6/2026 7:32pm I had heard a rumor that they were going to add some sort of slider bar to the app for the end user to adjust the motor cutoff speed, or class, presumably to compete with Spz and Avinox bikes that can be switched to Class 3 by the user. The guy said his local dealer had seen the beta verson...

6/6/2026 5:47pm I just learned that norway also has some politicians championing for an ebike ban on singletrails which will not get better by the power wars: https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-trails/will-e-bikes-be-banned-on-some-… Would be a shame because they have some of the most scenic and hard to reach trails!

6/3/2026 11:49pm " The new 700w Avinox battery is incredible (not just another repackaged Panasonic. Complete cell and wiring redesign with only 6% less burn time than the 800. Fuckin fair play to them." Where are you getting this 6% figure from? I've been under the impression that a watt is a watt, so the 700wh battery would get about 12% less...

6/3/2026 11:48pm I get what you're saying, however I think your dismissal of the "car analogy" is flawed. If you are talking about 4 (or even 2) lane state or interstate routes, that have dedicated bike paths and pedestrian sidewalks next to them, then yes, traffic of differing speeds and types is separated. Where I live, on the other hand, most of...

4/19/2026 9:58pm If we ever get 400Wh/kg battery densities, then it will be a very real possibility! Unfortunately, the highest I'm aware of right now is the new Avinox 700Wh at 220Wh/kg and the numbers are only creeping up very slowly (their 1gen 800s were 214Wh/kg if memory serves).

4/19/2026 1:18am While I fully empathize with your wish that DJI had focused on reducing weight rather than boosting power, it is unrealistic to think that they could go from 45-50lbs down to 38lbs. Their new M2S motor weighs about 5.75lbs, so they would need to get it down to 0lbs to achieve your target.

4/6/2026 11:09pm Yeah, agreed! I am very intrigued by this new Avinox motor, and am eagerly looking forward to the big reveal on the 9th to see if they've fixed the rattle, and if they're offering bigger batteries and/or a range extender, but even if they blow me away with it, I'm a little bummed that my favorite LBSs don't really carry...

4/6/2026 11:00pm I forget where I heard it, but supposedly these new Dominions are launching at the Sea Otter and are pumping....MINERAL OIL! 😲If true, that is actually a plus for me, but I know it is a very contentious topic and will alienate a lot of existing users and DOT fans.

4/5/2026 9:34pm I really appreciate the math. It’s funny when people act like they can’t feel the difference but i succinctly remember the “axel wars” and as a taller rider my riding absolutely reflected that 1.15mmwas a patent thing between the RS & FOX teams and actually ruined front ends handling for most riders when RS lost the war and caved to Shimano fox and 15qr. And 2. 20mm is superior and you can just feel it almost all the time . The older 20mm 29er forks that rock shox made were literally decades ahead in stiffness, to the new podium. So...

4/2/2026 3:14pm Pivot must think that EMTB motors are like Pokemon... gotta catch 'em all! Shimano EP8, Fazua 60, Bosch CX 5, Bosch SX, Avinox M2... only ones they've missed are the TQs.

4/2/2026 3:03pm Square taper crank interface on an e-bike motor? I haven't seen that in a while! Regarding anything new from Shimano, I haven't heard anything at all, but have been wondering what their plan is. They're kind of a slow and steady company, generally speaking, and I'd imagine that it might be more challenging for them with how fast the ebike...

3/30/2026 10:39pm Gee, I feel so old fashioned with my outdated Bosch Wild. I slapped it together last night, but all the set-up is yet to be completed and in fact I think I disconnected something when running new brakes as the motor won't power on now. Will try and get that handled in a couple of days when I get some time again. It's showing 49.2#s ready to ride now with pedals, with dual coil suspension (Avy front and rear), dual DH rims, dual DH tires, electronic dropper and electronic shifting, Size L with CXR and 600wh battery. still need to...

3/23/2026 12:26am That is unfortunate if Avinox is not offering direct warranty support. Many big players in the bike industry offer direct support, for example I've worked in shops where we handled warranties on Shimano or Sram parts on bikes we didn't sell, and given the technical specialization associated with ebike motors it seems like the actual motor maker is the one...

3/21/2026 9:56pm Yes, those calipers are the first generation of the mono block calipers that are now their flagship MTB brakes the Lewis AX. Matter of fact, they even make 6 piston brakes that are direct mount and 8 piston brakes that mount with adapters. I know from a guy that the 6 piston just didn't have the power so I believe they remedied that by using the same lever with the larger 4 piston,

3/21/2026 9:50pm " • Tariffs on Chinese-origin bikes now stack to roughly 56% (big impact for e-bikes and certain manufacturers like Santa Cruz). That's base duty + Section 301 + the new Section 122 surcharge" For those of us who weren't following the tariff picture closely until recently, can you give me an idea of how that compares to 2024 or earlier...
