REEB just dropped a launch page for the Gen2 SST, Still flex stays, still 120mm travel, still steel. As a current SST owner, the only things I'd like to see longer stays and a some more stack.

I just prototyped that for REEB. Lots went into this update after learning a ton on the V1. Custom drawn tubing, refined 3D printed elements, huge improvement on pivot hardware and bearings.
Both of your wishes are true! CS length is 7mm longer now, and stack came up 10mm.
Still early in the prototype phase, some small things will get updated as they get more miles on it, but it's pretty dialed as is!

I remember seeing some spy images of those last Spring, with the rumor being that Hayes was going to launch them at the Sea Otter, and they would be switching to mineral oil from the current DOT fluid. I figured I'd just missed the launch article, but they're still just a proto, eh? I guess they're taking a page from the Shimano book in terms of the length of their development cycles.

Curios on the tubing diameter and butting. 38mm downtube or 42mm?

Honda literally had the best looking most sought after bike of all time with the Honda RN01 that they pulled from being released last minute, only to return 20 years later with a bike that absolutely no one wants to or will buy! Way to go Honda (slow clap)
So... Everyone's suddenly really ramping up on 30.5 eh?
I just opened Instagram, and of course it reloaded half way through reading it and it's now lost to time, but from what I quickly saw was I believe Reserve having 30.5 wheels ready to go as they know it's going to be a thing.
Think of the poor tire companies. Do you know how many DHF skus there will be lol.
Only way I’m interested is if I can stuff a 30.5 in my 29 fork. No chance I’m buying any new standards, especially when these goofs launch 2 new sizes at once.
from sedona bike fest, trek super fly 32 - some available for demo. - Small-XL, size Large pictured - Travel: 110mm frame, 120mm fork. Size Small is 100mm travel f/r) - Hopefully January release - Normally don’t show bikes until they’re in the warehouse, this is an exception. - Pro Caliber 32 hardtail also expected in January.
Man if the shop I was at didn't have a recent Trek breakup I'd be all over trying one of those. Hate all ya want but that looks good - especially in the proto white.

Looked it up and Google says ETRTO for 30.5 is 642, so only 10mm larger radius than 29’s 622. Would be tight but seems like you could probably stuff a lower volume 30.5 tire in without contacting the arch/crown/downtube at full compression.
Obviously manufacturers will recommend against it because what’s the point of a new standard if not to sell more parts…
Don't forget that for a while we had bikes coming with aggressive tires like Minions and Bontrager XR4s in 29x3.0, which cleared Pikes and Lyriks at the time. Unscientifically, I can't imagine you're going to happily clear a 29x3.0 minion but not a 30.5x2.4 minion in the same fork.

True, although back in the day, I tried putting a 27.5 wheel in a 26” fork. The tire cleared the arch but hit the crown (or downtube, can’t recall) at full compression so was unusable unless you could somehow reduce travel without decreasing a2c.
27.5 has a 12.5mm larger radius than 26 (ETRTO of 584 vs 559), only 2.5mm larger than the gain from 29 > 30.5. So maybe even just 10mm larger radius is too much? No idea if the 29 forks are designed with additional clearance vs the old 26 ones though.
I’ll have to wait for some other enterprising soul to figure it out haha, that’s the only way I might end up with a larger front wheel.

Is that front brake a 180mm rotor with single pistons? So some large rider that actually needs a 32" is going to get on this thing and get it rocking up to speed....an have absolutely no way of slowing it down. How not to sell bike from your demo rides 101.

At this point, 30.5 is shaking out to be in the 650s, which makes sense. 29 = 622, 32 = 686. Split the difference 30.5 is 654. Unfortunately the sizing doesn't quite translate when trying to Mr. Potatohead wheelsets, forks, and frames together. If you want to keep your geometry largely static, it will be quite difficult. A 160mm 29 setup translates to a 130mm 30.5 setup. 32 is of the chart, somewhere around 90mm
For 10mm difference, I've got to ask : What's the point? Just stick with 29" and the same bead dia as road and gravel bikes.Never know...

Never know when i might want to stick some gravel tyres on my trail bike for a bikepacking mission! 😂
Also seems quite pointless to use a bigger rim (30.5") with a smaller tire just to come up with an effective wheel diameter that's got to be quite similar to the 29er you started with? In the end of the day it's the tire's OD that counts, not the number on the rim...

I don't recall needing to go larger rotor size between 26 and 29. I'm still 150lbs and that's the main energy that needs to be dissipated. I don't see 32" bikes needing 200mm rotors for XC riding.

Leverage. That bigger wheel is a longer lever. That 180mm rotor that was okay on 26" has 19% less power (for the same hand force) on a 32" wheel. To get the same braking force on the 32" bike with the 180mm rotor you need to squeeze 23% more at the lever. That doesn't yet take into account a 200lb rider vs your 150lb.
I'll admit to being no physicist, but again, would the weight of the rider not be the largest qualifier for how much energy a brake system needs in order to stop? The leverage over the wheel is in context to how much mass the wheel has, which given 29 vs 32 XC wheelsets have probably 200~g of difference when they're like for like, the stopping force is focused on the rider, not stopping the wheel.
If someone could break down the maths, would appreciate it.
I stated the 150lb part as I was 150 on 26, 150 on 27.5, and 150 on 29, and I've never felt a need to increase rotor size.
So this just came across my feed....steering linkage so you can have "shorter wheelbase, yet increased reach and stack".......apparently what's old is new again?

That's one benefit of the modular shock mount. Options!
