7/7/2026 8:04am Everybody serving the gearbox coolaid and how ebikes are getting them and how that will trickle down to pedal bikes, remember that the Avinox and Gaobao or whatever they are called have a CVT gearbox using two electric motors. That kind of a "gearbox" (integrated variable transmission to be precise) is wholly incompatible with bikes that do not have batteries. The only viable gearbox option covering both ebikes and bikes is the Pinion which is, functionally (speaking in volumes), non existent in both camps. As @Shinook and @Uncle Cliffy have said, the future has been promised for years now with...

7/6/2026 9:10pm Yeah, I agree that the b1 overall have less power then a1s. I've tried pretty much all flavors of Maven's and by my estimation the power heirarchy is: Maven Base, Maven B1, Maven B1 levers w/A1 caliper and lastly Maven A1. The A1 are much snappier with a narrower window of modulation from deadband to enough to lock. Whether B1s actually have less power I cannot say, but in practical application when you're clamping down on the brakes they feel like they have less power per mm of lever pull and less power overall. I still prefer the a1s on...

7/6/2026 6:33pm Anyone else finding the maven B1s noticeably less powerful than the A1s? I’ve never compared back to back but that is what I’m sensing. I have B1s on my new Crestline and just got back from Squamish where I was definitely getting fatigued on the super steep “creep” style slab moves, especially when you need to dump speed on the...

7/6/2026 9:03am No mention of what trimester it was in. He did say it was lighter but the weight number sounded unrealistic/impossible so not repeating it because I frankly do not believe it and didn't have build components list for context.

7/6/2026 8:48am I rode this weekend with a bike media guy. When I mentioned the Specialized / Gobao rumor that I'd seen here, he said he's already ridden the next Levo with a whole new system but that it wasn't a gearbox. All he'd say was that the hardware was all new but debadged so he wasn't sure who made the motor, and that it felt like Avinox level of power at much lighter weight than the Levo 4.

7/6/2026 8:47am I think it’s important to remember in the tech rumors forum that we all have dope bikes, tailored specifically for where we ride, and that it’s never the same everywhere for everyone and that minion DHF is still the best tire ever always

7/6/2026 8:47am Long time lurker… longer than I’ve been an ‘official’ member… Phoenix local here… DH tires. Cushcore.. and a Neo Shock. I ride a 2023 Rocky Mountain Altitude and the Neo- has been an absolute game changer for me. I pedal a lot.. and it has made my enduro into a ‘trail-duro’ it’s been a huge innovation for me. DH tires and cushcore so I don’t get stranded in the desert heat and can bash the rocks back.. Neo to pedal all day. I’d recommend it for the type of riding I have out the front door from the house.

7/2/2026 10:18pm So I have some feedback on the 120mm rise handlebar (10º backsweep, 5º upsweep). I ran it with the same setback of 35mm (straight line though the middle of the ends of the handlebar to middle of stem) which I was running on my 90mm rise handlebar. I run a -10mm stem. I increased my rear spring rate up to 325lbs from the 300lbs and backed off my low and high speed compression by 4 clicks (one click from fully open) on my fork. I also added one 1psi to my rear tyre. So soften the front and stiffen the...

6/29/2026 10:51pm For years people have been asking for MGUs from SRAM and Shimano and there has long been speculation that those brands didn’t get involved because they didn’t want to undermine their own market share of expensive, high wear components. In doing so they’ve left their flank wide open for a Chinese company to swallow up the drivetrain market while solving issues riders have complained about for decades. Horrific miscalculation from the drivetrain cartel.

6/29/2026 10:34pm I have no issue with software teams using "agile" in whatever the original context was. I have issues with what it became in the corporate world. Over my year long in-house counsel contract, I think I attended 4-5 mandatory "agile" training seminars, and it featured heavily at our multi-day retreat. To this day I'm not really sure what it means, except that the "agile coaches" sound like new-age grifters when given a microphone in front of a crowd of people that are mandated to be there. Worse yet was inevitably after one of these seminar things, I'd be on a...

6/26/2026 9:46am Love to see it. High rise is the way. Need more options. Curious to try these because of the back sweep but don’t want to lose 5mm compared to my deity 80mm risers as I already wish I could go higher. I think 100 would be the ticket for me. Ergotec risers go to 100mm but are only 780mm wide...

6/25/2026 11:03pm For the people who complain about too many bikes being horst link now--get ready it'll be all of them soon. Being able to easily split the rear triangle makes belt drive possible. Gonna be hard on the sales floor to tell people the chain that needs constant maintenance is better than the belt that doesn't. Maybe another one of the reasons Santa Cruz shifted the bullit/vala away from VPP. Seat post insertion, belt compatibility, and minimizing ugliness; three pretty compelling reasons. I think brands are going to probably be hard pressed to put all their R&D into ebike horst link...

6/25/2026 11:01pm While they're saying this is a test, they added the bolt holes for the idler on all production frames. I couldn't figure out what these were for, until today. Makes me think this "concept" is coming sooner than folks are letting on.
