8/22/2026 8:41pm Assuming it's a high pivot idler setup, you won't see a massive difference as the idler mitigates a lot of the pedal kickback already. If it is without an idler you'll see a big improvement as it will negate the very high pedal kickback high pivot bikes have. One thing to consider is that on certain bikes the pedal kickback during compression is actually beneficial as it aids pumping to generate speed. A bike with no chain does not pump as nicely as a bike with a chain where the chain growth will stiffen the suspension during the compression making...

8/20/2026 1:24pm I've more than once wondered who is underwriting his insurance or is it Red Bull with "we got you bro" My impression is that he's the sort of person who would be doing this stuff irrespective of money but that's just my opinion.

8/19/2026 2:28pm The chainless comparison is for provoking the noise without the influences of the frame, kinematics and the focus on having to ride a difficult trail plus other stuff that can rattle. Just simulate what chain slap will do to the chainring by rocking it back and forth in quick succession and you'll hear if the motor theoretically can rattle in some models and how loud it is. So far from recent full power motors only the Bosch Gen 5 and Brose S-Mag really have no rattle. The Sram motor is an S-Mag aswell as Specialized 2.1/2.2 motors (they don't rattle...

8/19/2026 2:27pm It would be better if you tested it specifically also with the chain off to discount for kinematics and resonances from the frame and isolate noise. There is also a psychoacoustic component: many people claim the bike is silent when just riding it because they focus on riding. And it's not really true that every motor brand or model has complaints about rattle. It's very different for certain models and some truly have none while others will rattle continuously on a fireroad. So far M1/M2 seem to rattle and for MS2 it's unclear if only some units rattle due to...

8/19/2026 7:24am both the PR and PX bikes that we've had were exceptionally quiet. it seems like every motor brand has both complaints of motor noise or praises of of them being quiet. i was lucky to have the PR, a bosch and a specialized at the same time. the PR was the quietest riding the same trail back to back to back.

8/19/2026 7:24am The Amflow and Teewing bikes look like a good value. Can you actually buy one and have it within a week? Seems like there are a lot of people waiting around for Avinox equipped bikes that were ordered and in some cases paid for a while (months) ago. Considering how fast new bikes are coming out, I would not want to wait around.

8/19/2026 7:24am Just published our Amflow PX Carbon Pro review - https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/e-bikes/amflow/px-77641#comment-… TLDR: I would buy the cheaper PX Carbon and buy better suspension second-hand on marketplace, and romp it for a long time. The bike was super capable and fun to ride, it's light, the motor/range/tunability/interface is great, and all the geo adjustments make it quite adaptable.

8/18/2026 7:30am For aggressive AM riding in loose terrain, but less hard pack/ park riding, would you still prefer the DH casing for ride quality reasons (not puncture reasons) or would the upcoming lighter casings (DD, Exo+) still provide the same benefits? Some tires, just don't work very well unless they are the DH casing variant (Schwalbe tires specifically) but in this...

8/18/2026 7:24am I had my first ride on the DHX today, front and rear. I’ve never felt more confident going waaay faster than I ever have before on the trail, than I did today! For reference, I’ve been riding the same trail at least once a week, 2-3 laps for the last 5 and a half months, only taking 2 weeks off. I ran the exact same pressure as I ran in my Assegai/DHR DH casing combo, 25/28. I’m riding a 50 pound eeb with 200mm travel front and rear. I weigh 180 pounds buck naked. I’ve got five bullet points. First...

8/16/2026 3:37pm Different strokes for different strokes. I never notice it spinning unless i'm speeding up or slowing down, in which case I also shifted, so it's working really well for me.

8/15/2026 7:27pm I have a Bosch CX5 with no hard wired drivetrain. Two updates ago it started doing this thing in most modes where it auto rotates the chain ring forward about 3/4 of a rotation. I still can't figure out what triggers it because just going down the road and looking between my legs and shifting does not activate it. The...

8/12/2026 9:19am This is what worries me. I get the technical benefits of putting a kid on an ebike, but at the same time they're going to see that you don't need to put in the effort to get to the top. Just another shortcut in life that's so popular these days. Maybe if you could limit it to a certain level and not have any assist levels, only on or off, but it will still be a pain when they go to a regular bike. Which they will have to if they want to race for example. IMO it's too much...

8/12/2026 5:49am Maxxterra / new DH casing soon to come for the DHX. MaxxTerra has had a major durability upgrade earlier this without impacting grip compared to the previous version. Glad you like the tires!

8/12/2026 5:49am The last time I posted in this thread I glazed the Kryptotals pretty hard for their long life, but I've been sucked back into Maxxis world by the DHX. Initial thoughts on DHX after two days in the park Maxxgrip rubber has confidence inspiring grip on rock slabs. I don't think I have ever been able to go so slow down renegade or captain safety as I did on these tires. The new DH casing is noticeably more supportive and impact resistant as expected, these tires are heavy I don't feel the need to run the tannus pro inserts I...
