The legislative proposal for the new Motor traffic Act in Norway just dropped, and the part about banning e-bikes on trails is not there anymore.

Don't see an edit button: The best info on batteries and efficiencies is this article: https://ebike-mtb.com/en/e-bike-motor-test-range-efficiency-vertical-ra… Unfortunately the test does not have the M2S, but in a different test they confirmed the 3% gain. One caveat to the "watt is a watt", is that manufacturers can print whatever number they want, for instance Specialized's 840Wh battery which by most metrics is smaller than a Bosch 800Wh. So it is possible that the Avinox 700Wh has a few more available Wh than advertised.

A watt is a watt, the newer bikes have the m2s which is claimed ar 2-3% more efficient than M1 making the new system in 700Wh closer to the old system in 800Wh. I want to see a comparison of the new bikes with the old 800Wh compared to the original M1 system. If anything, the 700Wh could consume slightly more energy as it can sustain higher loads for much longer before derating.

I read that as: YT will continue to provide support for the Decoy SN as long as they're able to get parts through the Fazua dealer network. Probably something that was translated German to English. I was talking to a couple local guys who ended up buying Heckler SLs after talking to me about mine last year, and were bummed about the whole situation. I said that while I sold mine before the news happened, I wouldn't be super stressed about it as Santa Cruz has said that they intend to provide support and look out for the customers. Knowing...

It always looked pretty good. It honestly looks pretty much the same with a bit of a slimmer downtube.

@ballz - Great to hear you got it figured out and that it was not the hub.

Thank you both for your replies. It made me dig deeper and the hub is, in fact, innocent. Two things seem to be happening instead - the RD makes this metallic clang when the bike bounces, with or without chain, which is odd. The entire wheel rings quite a bit when this happens, which adds to the overall acoustic impression that confused me. I am not sure what's going on with the RD as it has the Hall lock and it never gave me problems before, but at least I am not going mad about finding the culprit anymore.

Hey @ballz , We occasionally get feedback about the noise that the pawls make when they engage the ratchet ring during initial pedaling movement, but your description sounds pretty extreme and not the norm. Can you drop us a line at support@ethirteen.com and we can dig into it with you. Thanks!

The car analogy is a stupid one because you don't have cars sharing a road with other users who are going 10x-15x slower (2mph avg walking speed vs. 20-28mph cutoff). Saying that easy delimiting can be addressed by enforcement is a terrible solution. There's one park nearby where the managing agency hates bikes despite them being 80% of the users, and actively enforces a 20mph speed limit with rangers and radar guns. They literally hide behind trees on fire road connectors they know people use to connect the few singletracks and slap you with a $400 ticket. I do NOT...

I say the quiet part out loud: the huge assistant rate is mostly needed by heavy, out of shape riders. If you're light or in shape you'll notice that all full power bikes from the last 5 years have enough power. For light riders the full turbo settings are often overkill. So this extended motor power combined with bigger battery will lead to more people reaching higher/more remote areas and trails. In Europe we already have historic pushback against mountainbikes on trails in many countries and just recently there was a new initiative by the biggest country in Germany to...

forbidden bikes have similar wheelbases than their competitors with short chainstays they increase cs and stack but reduce reach

The interesting thing is that the differences are apparent at both slower and faster speeds. Where you are positioned between the wheels makes a much larger impact than a few millimeters difference in total wheelbase. The difference in F:R ratio is surprisingly important in tight switchbacks, tech climbing, etc. The longer Crafty feels more maneuverable even in the slow tight stuff. An extreme example is if you've ever owned a BMX bike with rear pegs and have rode around standing on the pegs - the front end pushes wide at any speed and you have to lean on the bars...

For sure -- I’ve owned a series of XXL Santa Cruz bikes and know exactly the front wheel feeling you’re talking about. You turn as gently as you can, twist your hips to the outside, lean the bike, weight your outside foot, and the front wheel goes “aight imma head out” and you go teeth-first into the center point of the turn. I think an under-discussed aspect of a long front center is how it changes the spatial relationship between your center of mass and the front contact patch. When you lean a bike, you’re limited in how far to...

Theoretically yes but I don't think that's what's happening with most brands. I think I mentioned this before but I had a XXL Hightower V3 and that bike felt so long and cumbersome. Felt like the front wheel was in a different zip code. My new XL Crafty has nearly identical front triangle geo but fits perfect and feels much easier to maneuver. Instead of the front wanting to push wide in every corner, it hooks up and carves the corner. It's counterintuitive but when the F:R gets way out of wack, the short chainsay actually makes the bike feel...
