This a common straw man argument I see on this topic. It’s important to remember that anyone capable of going that fast uphill is only do so with a lifetime of skills as a foundation . Anyone in a pro xco race is likely never putting out 1500w in that race, and if the are it’s for about 5 seconds during a sprint finish. Theres just a lot more nuance man. Running less sag makes a bike track poorly on account of losing contact with the ground anytime there’s an indent the wheel has to go over. You see the same exact issue with people lifting vehicles to drive off road. They throw preload collars on and all of the sudden they feel the truck is harsher. The spring rate hasn’t gotten stiffer so why does it feel harsher? 5/21/2026 10:02am Focusing on speed on the descent is a fascinating way to dodge the issue. It's speed on the ascents that is the concern. And people are already finding ways round the limiters. I'm also deeply skeptical that anyone truely needs 800% assistance.... Show me a use case where 400% assistance is just not enough....

I was wondering if there is an additional challenge with bike financing in that there isn't a legion of accountants working out the residuals...?? Which are fairly well understood for vehicles but I wonder about powersports.

5/19/2026 10:01am It's whilst coasting in my case. A lot of the time I'm riding rough rocky trails where I'm not super fast and there's often some background noise of loose rubble etc so the noise wasn't that noticeable. This past weekend I was on some smooth high speed jump trails and I really noticed it.

5/18/2026 8:00pm I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions on this. I switched last year from 29er to mullet. Initially there were some moves on local tech climbs I struggled to make on the mullet but then I think I adapted... On the one hand rollover is worse but on the other hand if you do get hung up it's less effort...

5/18/2026 7:17pm Few more days now on the Deg DF including a couple of days shuttling. I like it and it's made a noticable difference to the ride. The DEG hubs are noisy and for some reason they seem to have got louder with the DF installed. I don't know if it's that other stuff is quieter or just fresh service but...
