sweaman22 Added a reply to E-bike talk: not tech rumor derailment
5/21/2026 10:02am Focusing on speed on the descent is a fascinating way to dodge the issue. It's speed on the ascents that is the concern. And people are already finding ways round the limiters. I'm also deeply skeptical that anyone truely needs 800% assistance.... Show me a use case where 400% assistance is just not enough....

5/20/2026 4:54pm I was thinking about this a bit today. So a question for Jeff. I was wondering if there is an additional challenge with bike financing in that there isn't a legion of accountants working out the residuals...?? Which are fairly well understood for vehicles but I wonder about powersports.

5/19/2026 8:01pm Or maybe it becomes like the car industry where leasing is one of the main forms of "ownership".

5/19/2026 7:09pm I think the hope is that ebikes will be more like iPhones or the geometry updates circa 2014-2020 such that people will continually want to upgrade to the latest and greatest... There was a period where a 2 year old bike was noticeably different. But depreciation on old ebikes is going to be brutal and how many people can afford...

5/19/2026 10:01am It's whilst coasting in my case. A lot of the time I'm riding rough rocky trails where I'm not super fast and there's often some background noise of loose rubble etc so the noise wasn't that noticeable. This past weekend I was on some smooth high speed jump trails and I really noticed it.

5/18/2026 8:00pm I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions on this. I switched last year from 29er to mullet. Initially there were some moves on local tech climbs I struggled to make on the mullet but then I think I adapted... On the one hand rollover is worse but on the other hand if you do get hung up it's less effort...

5/18/2026 7:17pm Few more days now on the Deg DF including a couple of days shuttling. I like it and it's made a noticable difference to the ride. The DEG hubs are noisy and for some reason they seem to have got louder with the DF installed. I don't know if it's that other stuff is quieter or just fresh service but...

5/14/2026 2:46pm Escape collective has just released the first (of several) follow up podcasts on the state of the industry. I've only just started the first but if it's like the previous set they'll be worth a listen.

5/13/2026 10:46am In Western Canada Roberts composites is good. I've used them twice; both times service was great and you can't tell there was a repair. https://robertscomposites.com/

5/12/2026 8:48pm Just fitted a DF hub to my Patrol. It's in the 10deg setting and it's made a noticable difference through some of the rough trails we have here (Canadian Rockies). My previous bike was a V1 Druid and whilst I didn't miss too many things from it when I moved to the Patrol I did notice the increased feedback at...

5/9/2026 3:00pm Re: Specialized I think the availability is interesting. I'm potentially in the market for a lightweight e-bike (before they apparently go the way of the dodo) and they are one of the only companies any.of my (Canadian) LBS actually have in stock. I've tried hunting for other options (Trek, Devinchi, Yeti) and there's not a lot on the shop floor...

5/9/2026 2:56pm An absolutely brutal read to slog through. Sorry! What I meant to say was that the subject matter of Orbea's deep dive failed to fully resonate with the intended audience, yielding a suboptimal reading experience, and failing to deliver a holistic win-win for big-picture strategic partners in the greater bike industry ecosystem.

5/1/2026 6:04pm Can't find the original thread. Is this during practice or are they getting live updates during qualifying and finals? Whilst Jackson's POV implies he's got the spare bandwidth (for what of a better term) to listen to instructions whilst also pinning it I'm skeptical it's common......

4/29/2026 6:09pm I just want to be like some of my friends who don’t analyze every detail of their bike. They just smoke me, while I’m obsessing over brake lever angle, +/- a PSI and if I’m getting enough carbs per hour.
