I think part of the problem is that "MTB" covers a really diverse range of riding styles, and for the different styles, a variety of engineering requirements and interests. It's easy for people (myself included) to only consider the style(s) of riding they do when they promote or bash posts. I agree that there might be interesting trickle-down technology from the latest "moped" innovations in MGUs for predominantly gravity-driven forms of pedal MTBs. While the idea of a gearbox that is comparable in weight in efficiency to a conventional 1X drive train is exciting, from the engineering side of things...

I typically use the climb switch once per ride. I like to turn it on halfway up the climb when I remember I have it and might as well use it. I tend to turn it off halfway down the descent when I’m puzzling over why my suspension isn’t working. I suspect I am not in the minority.

I think this has made my front tyre choice for bike park season pretty easy. I finally tested the Magic Mary Radial Gravity Ultra Soft against the Assegai DoubleDown MaxxGrip. The Mary was much smoother in the rough, had huge braking confidence, and came out 2.86 seconds quicker in my 15-run comparison. What surprised me most is that I do not think it gives anything away in rolling speed either. It was already edging ahead on the smoother, flatter opening section before grip really became a factor. No doubt you can make almost any setup silence. My point was that the angle of the cable relativ to the handelbars doesnt necesarly make a rattling noise.

If you clip the two cables coming from one side together and space the two pairs from opposite side wide appart enough, it'll be silent. FWIW, how do you mount non-Sram shifter on Mavens, Motive and late model Codes? Is there enough space between the reservoir cover and bar to fit a clamp there?

I have to disagree about the noise of cables comming from the angle of the hose alone. I had dominions on a 4 cable cockpit and it was rattling. Now i habe a 2 cable cockpit with only the mavens and its death silent.
