On this general train of thought, one thing I always thought could be genuinely beneficial to the consumer is size specific build kits, particularly on a bike like this. Put a 34 and exo tyres on the smaller sizes, with a 36 and exo+ tyres on the larger sizes. You could do similar things for rotors, bar width etc. More part numbers for the product managers but hey, we can dream.

I haven't tried EVERYTHING but a decent cross section of tires like ALL the old stuff but recently the Schwalbe Radials in gravity and trail plus different sizes front and back on 2 different bikes, all of the usual from Maxxis including the DHX, and consistently find that on my very loose and rocky most aggressive trails, and this in...

Just strava stuff, but it really depends on where and what you're riding. I like the maxxis new dh casings myself. they roll fast, have a nice supported feeling, but still have a bit of that radial compliance feeling on the initial bit of a hit. They've been fastest on the dh bike and e-bike. No way I'd pedal those on the enduro bike ! The schwalbes are faster at going slow, if that makes sense. They shine on slower tech and roots where you can't just pitter patter your way through stuff, and have to just plow it. They're...

Has anyone done proper timed run testing for enduro racing? Curious if there's a noticeable difference between Schwalbe Gravity Pro, Maxxis DH/DD & Conti DH offerings. Maxxis new DH are getting heavy for enduro... Conti DH are lighter but stiff. Schwalbe Gravity Radial seem to offer more grip/compliance at the cost of rolling speed and support. Curious if anyone has been going back to back and what they found.

I hate radials in the rear but don't feel the downsides in the front until G-out bikepark berms, so I use this setup on every bike. Unless trying Specialized, I would recommend getting over mismatched logos or getting out some sharpies. Seems to be enough awareness of the awful durability of Schwalbes when you put them in the rear here so I won't repeat it

It's weird. My Tacky Chan on the ebike looks totally toasted after like 300 miles but when riding in dry conditions I would not be able to tell you the tire looks as toasted as it does. Maybe that's an artifact of having just more tire on the ground with radial? I'm going to just let it keep going until it's feeling matches it's looks.

is this an e bike by chance? the grip alone would be worth it if you ride damp rocks a lot, and this superiority might be causing you to overlook the rolling resistance. or it's there and you don't feel it, hard to say. but Enduro mag showed a massive difference in rolling resistance between schwalbe ultra soft and soft, and I have noticed it on the front. I've never run an ultra soft rear. https://enduro-mtb.com/en/mtb-tire-test-weight-rolling-resistance-punct…

Tacky for drier/hardpack trails, although it does very well in the intermediate conditions. Mary when its loose/wet.

true radial like a car tire is 90 degrees to the direction of rotation, which is horizontal. none of the mtb radial tires in production by any brand are like that, and they vary from 55-80 degrees. traditional construction mtb tires are 45 degrees, which is diagonal to the direction of rotation. so diagonal or bias ply are both right, and radial is not literally correct, it's just an obtuse angle. one might assume that schwalbe thought marketing tires as 'obtuse' would not be as effective as calling them 'radial'.

The Race Pro line will come out next year. For the most part this would be tires with the previous 'Super Race' Turn-Up casing. A 29x2.4 Nobby Nic Trail Pro ( 11654142.02) weighs 1000g. Not a Radial though. They 29x2.4 Romy Trail Pro Radial (1040g) is quick despite what you might think of the weight number, and it is great for trail riding.

Closing thoughts on the new maxx Terra v2. Dh season is over for me now, and I’ve been riding the DHR2 since it opened. FWIW, this is on a DH bike at race pace for the season. Just about 160 miles and just under 100k feet of descending. Still has tons of breaking grip, can’t tell the difference in nor-cal dirt from maxx grip, but well over 2x the life, if not more. Casing is spent and the tire got a sidewall slice at the top of the casing insert on the last run, so she’s pretty cooked, otherwise would...

The new Romys came in last night, mounted them up by hand, no lever (with insert in the rear too!). Set the bead with a normal floor pump as well, no tank or compressor. First ride on them this morning, 2.5 Soft front, 2.4 Medium rear. 26 PSI, which felt much more stiff with the thumb test. The knobs and lugs look about the same size as a DHRII, but these roll noticably faster (at least at 26 PSI). The same benefits I found on my ebike with Radial Albert + MM: Much, much slower rebound. You can feel it...

Me. I’m the one who will probably buy one. I am not a more travel is better guy. I’ve run hardcore hardtails for many years as my ‘trail’ bike mostly because I couldn’t find a 120mm frame I felt like I could hammer. This is Cat 5 rated. And comes with a Lyric. Sign me up!

2+ years later I'm still on the Newman Baskars and they are EASILY the best flat pedals that I have ever owned. If I can ever break them, I'll just order the same thing again. Highly recommended!

I'm old and not very brave, but not particularly slow (many top 5s on Strava but I walk some larger drops, etc.). The stock 170mm rear suspension on my 2026 Orbea Wild with an Avy Bomber coil shock felt really quite good, except I bottomed it like 25x per ride. Occasionally the bottom outs were so hard it sounded like...
